6th Grade Religion
In 6th Grade Religion we will be studying the Old Testament
The Old Testament is the first part of the Bible. It tells the story of God's relationship with His people before Jesus was born.
🌍 1. Creation and the Beginning (Genesis)
God created the world in 6 days and rested on the 7th.
Adam and Eve were the first humans.
Sin entered the world when they disobeyed God.
People became very sinful, so God sent a flood to start over.
God saved Noah, his family, and animals in an ark.
God made a covenant (promise) never to flood the earth again and gave the rainbow as a sign.
🌟 3. Abraham and the Promises
God chose Abraham to be the father of a great nation.
God promised him land, many descendants, and blessings.
Abraham trusted God, even when things were hard.
👦 4. Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph
Abraham’s son: Isaac
Isaac’s son: Jacob (also called Israel)
Jacob had 12 sons; one was Joseph, who was sold into slavery.
Joseph became a leader in Egypt and saved his family during a famine.
🧑⚖️ 5. Moses and the Exodus
The Israelites became slaves in Egypt.
God called Moses to lead them out.
God sent 10 plagues, parted the Red Sea, and gave the 10 Commandments on Mt. Sinai.
🏞️ 6. The Promised Land and Judges
After wandering 40 years in the desert, the Israelites entered the Promised Land (Canaan).
Leaders called Judges helped them when they turned away from God and got into trouble.
Israel wanted a king. First kings were:
After Solomon, the kingdom split into Israel (north) and Judah (south).
Prophets like Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Elijah reminded people to follow God.
Because the people kept disobeying, foreign nations conquered them.
The Babylonians destroyed Jerusalem and took many people into exile.
Later, God allowed them to return and rebuild the Temple and Jerusalem.
Covenant – God's special promise and relationship with His people
Faithfulness – God always keeps His promises
Obedience – Following God's law brings blessings
Hope – God has a plan, even in hard times
