Mr. Guymon's Grading Policies

I follow the school districts grading scale. It is as follows:

93%-100% A

85%-92% B

77%-84% C

70%-76% D

69% and below F

Students grades are primarily comprised of 3 parts: homework, team tests/quizzes, and individual tests.

Homework is used to earn extra points to the student's grade. It is also used to qualify a student to do test/quiz corrections (see below). Answers to homework are posted on homework calendar or in the case of Kahn Academy provided as problems are completed within Kahn Academy.

Team Tests/Quizzes are approximately 1/3 of the student’s overall grade. Students work with the same group (usually 3 or 4 students in a group) for each chapter/unit. At the end of the chapter, before taking the individual chapter test, the students take a team test (quiz) over the same material as what will be on their individual test. This is meant to be a way for students to help each other study for the individual test. If students in a group can't agree on an answer (some insist that they are right), then they put a sticky note on their paper for Mr. Guymon to correct that problem separately.

Individual Tests are approximately 2/3 of the student’s overall grade. These are usually given at the end of each chapter. This ends up coming out to approximately one individual test per month.

Test Corrections - (Offered for Math 3, Trigonometry, and Transition to College Math classes)

On student’s team tests/quizzes and individual tests I offer “test corrections” using the following guidelines:

• Students must have completed all homework/assignments for the material covered on the test, to be eligible for test corrections
• Corrections are completed in my classroom before school (between 7:30 and 8:10, 5th period, or 8th period). (If this time doesn't work for the student, then the student needs to talk to me about other options.)
• Students must complete corrections within one week of getting the test back
• Students may do team quiz/test corrections with their team or on their own
• When incorrect problems are completed correctly, showing appropriate work, the student earns 1/2 of the points back.

Final Grade Calculation (not College Algebra - CA see separate link or note below)

A student's final grade for the year is calculated as follows:

• A student's final grade is calculated using cumulative points for the year.
• * Note * - The cumulative final grade is visible in the online Family Access grade book display - in the FNL (Final Grade) Column. Therefore, this is the best indicator of the students grade for the end of the year (this final grade is the only grade that appears on their transcript when they graduate).
• 85% from their cumulative points throughout year are from unit quizzes and tests
• For year-long class (Math 3):
  • 7.5% from their Semester 1 Exam
  • 7.5% from their Semester 2 Exam
• For Transition to College Math & Trig. semester classes - the final exam is 15% of the student's grade
• College Algebra policies are posted on the homework calendar at the start of the semester on the course syllabus.
