Enrichment Activities

How it works

Leverage the mathematics skills that you've developed through your academic careers to solve problems through investigation, experimentation, and collaboration - in groups! These activities are completely optional and will not affect your grades in any way, but they are designed to be fun and light weight, so I hope you all will take part. You'll only get out of it what you put into it, so I hope you approach it with enthusiasm and an open mind.

Here's how it will works...

  • Monday - A new problem for the week will be posted. Sign-up by fill out the form by 3 pm. Teams will be assigned by the end of the day.
  • Tuesday-Thursday - Communicate and collaborate with your group.
    • **New** Use the Tuesday/Thursday Zoom "office hours" to meet up with your group - we'll use break-out rooms for group collaborating.
  • Friday - Have your solution posted to the OneNote by Friday morning. Come back to Teams to view and comment on other group's solutions.

As always, you can email me or Mrs. Rossi at: everettj@issaquah.wednet.edu & rossis@issaquah.wednet.edu.

Getting Started

All students will receive an email by Monday mornings with the link to the website & web form with the week's project. To participate in the week's project, complete the web form by 3 pm on Monday. You will receive another email by the end of the day with the following...

  1. Your group assignments (composed of a few other students from your class).
  2. A link to a Teams channel for your group. This is a discussion forum where your group can chat. Teams is a Microsoft collaboration application managed by the district. You will use your school user account to access this channel. This is also your school email account.
  3. A link to a OneNote page where your group can write up your explanations / work on the problem. The OneNote page is part of the Teams channel, so you can also access it from the Teams channel link (mentioned in item #2, above).
  4. Come to the Tuesday/Thursday "office hours" Zoom meeting to live collaborate with your team.

Collaborating with your Group - Using Teams Discussion

What is it?

  • It is a discussion forum where you can post / reply / make a plan / etc. You are also free to use email, if you'd prefer.
  • Teams is a Microsoft collaboration application. This instance is maintained by the school district.

Who can see my posts?

  • There are two discussion forums. One setup just for your group & another for the entire class. Only the students in your group have access to your group's discussion forum - with a big exception. The teachers (Mr. Evertt and Mrs. Rossi) have access to all groups discussion forum and the school/district administrators have access to all groups (public or private). As with school email, you are using district resources and everything is recorded. Please see expectations (below) for more details.

Need helping using OneNote?

  • You have a few options. First, there are many good online tutorials - here's one. Second, ask the other students on Teams. This is a great use for your class's discussion forum.

Expectations

1. Treat your fellow students with respect. These projects will all involve collaboration. The same rules apply here that apply in the classroom (Classroom Expectations). Listen, be inclusive, be patient, and assume the best.

2. These are voluntary activities. But, if you do signup to participate, don't let your group down. This is part of treating others with respect. These activities are designed to scale with the amount of effort you want to put in to them. They do not require a large time commitment.

3. This is a hard time and we are all in this together. Keep an open mind and a positive attitude.
