Attendance Policy:
Daily on-time attendance is extremely necessary for success. If a student is absent, it is the student’s responsibility to find out what was covered in class and complete the work in a timely manner. If a student must be absent with excuse, they are expected to make up missing work within two days of returning to be considered as on time. If missing a quiz/ test, you will be expected to complete it after school, not during class time.
Tardy will be given if a student is not in the classroom by the time the bell rings. Students are expected to be in the classroom and keep learning during the first and last 5 minutes.
Three (unexcused) tardies = a referral, along with every additional tardy thereafter (as per the school policy)
.
Personal electronics (include headphones and cell phones but calculator): If your phone is misused during class, I will take it then turn your phone into the office where it can be picked up at the end of the day on the first offence. On the second offence a parent will need to pick up the phone (per school policy).
• “Technology Away” Sign: ALL personal electronic devices are expected to be off and completely away.
• “Technology OK” Sign: only cellphones are allowed for academic purposes only.
Please do not call your child’s phone during class time. If necessary, please call the school main office (503-668-8011). The school office has a phone for student use in case it is necessary.
In addition, students are NOT allowed to bring any kinds of drink or food in class. A bottle of water is allowed.
A student’s final grade in this class is a measure of his/ her understanding of the state/ national standards.
Each student walks into my classroom on the first day of school with an A grade. The student is responsible for keeping their grade up throughout the semester. The final grade is based on a weighted scale from these four categories:
Assignments (Homework, class work, etc.) 10%
Formative Assessments (Quizzes, Projects, etc.) 40%
Summative Assessments (Unit tests) 40%
Final Exam 10%
A: 90%+ B: 80 – 89% C: 70 – 79% D: 60 – 69% F: Below 60%
Assignments – Homework (max 5pts each) must be submitted before the bell rings or it will be considered as late. I allow students to continue working on their homework and earn additional points until the week before the semester grades. Homework is graded on completeness of work.
Classwork (max 5pts each) is due in-class within a specific amount of time. It is graded on the student’s effort, understanding and number of complete problems. Students will be given a new assignment everyday, with rare exception.
Formative Assessments (no retake) – This category includes exit slips, projects, and quizzes. Quizzes will be given 1-3 times a week.
Summative Assessments – Tests at the end of each unit will be graded problem by problem.
Retake tests are allowed (once per test) and must be made up before or after school and by the end of the next unit. Retake tests will NOT be the same test given as the original. The best of the two test scores will be recorded. Before taking a retake test, students must:
• Request “Retake Reflection” form.
• Complete and turn in “Part 1” of the “Retake Reflection” form.
• Review your test.
• AND study hard and smart for the retake test (group study, self-study, or ask teacher, etc.)
• Complete and turn in “Part 2” of the “Retake Reflection” form.
Final – At the end of each semester, a final test will be given that includes all topics covered during the semester.
