I am a 1989 graduate of Independence High School. I attended Kirkwood Community College for two years and received my AA in Business Management in 1991. I continued on to the University of Northern Iowa where I received my BME in Music Education in 1995. In the summer of 2007, I graduated with my Master’s Degree in Education from Viterbo University in LaCrosse, Wisconsin.
I was a member of the All-State choir my senior year in high school. I sang in the group Jazz Transit at Kirkwood College and performed at the Mexico City Jazz Festival, and the National Jazz Festival in Kalamazoo, MI. I was a member of the U.N.I Singers, Madrigal /Jazz Singers and Concert Chorale at U.N.I. I performed with the Concert Chorale at Carnagie Hall in New York City in 1995. I have also performed with the Metropolitan Chorale of Waterloo.
I have taught vocal music at East Buchanan Schools since the fall of 1996, and began teaching introduction to Computer Technology in 2000 to grades K-5. I currently teach PreK-6th grade general music. I am currently the head of Music Ministries at the First United Methodist Church of Independence where I direct the chancel choir, youth choir, the bell choir and play the trombone in the Blessed Promise Band.
I am also currently employed as a meat cutter at Hy-Vee Food Stores in Waterloo, Iowa. I have been Hy-Vee since 1995.
My family consists of my mom Sandra, a sister Tammy who lives in Independence, a sister Becky who lives in Bondurant, Iowa, and 2 puppies, Oliver James and Mocha Latte.
My hobbies are listening to music, spending time with my family and puppies, biking, walking and train watching.
