As most have realized, our public school systems have been experiencing reductions in funding for the last ten years. This shortfall has, fortunately, been reduced by the generosity of our community. Please remember that all donations are appreciated but never required or even expected in the case of financial difficulty. All donations can be placed in an envelope and/or labeled with "Mr Berwald - Science Donation" and delivered to the front office or sent with your student to bring with them to class. I thank you in advance for your generous donations.

Bret Harte Science Department Donation
Our department asks for a $10 donation to help us cover our department consumable costs; replacing broken glassware and equipment, re-filling chemical supplies, properly disposing of chemical and biological waste, and other "across-the-department" costs.
Small Things
There are a few general supplies that we use throughout the year in my Science classroom that you and your family may be willing to donate. Often, families shopping at large box-stores (Costco) find that 25 boxes of Kleenex is a bit of overkill. Many families donate their "extra" supplies to our classroom. Some examples include;
Pens, Pencils, Colored Pencils, Markers and Crayons Printer, Binder, Graph, and Construction Paper
Wet-Wipes, Paper Towels, Kleenex Duct, Masking, and Scotch Tape
Whiteboard Markers and Erasers/Cloth Rags Folders, Sheet Protectors, and Binder-clip
Rulers, Erasers, and Whiteout Cleaning Products - Spray, sponges, etc.
Other Items
As the year progresses, I usually purchase a variety of other supplies and items to compliment our teaching curriculum. Slightly more expensive items can include pencil sharpeners, materials organizers, storage shelves, etc. We also use various hardware and construction materials in lab activities. Often times, the easiest way to contribute to these items is to purchase a gift card and donate it to our classroom. The most useful providers are; Amazon, Office Max, Home Depot, OSH, and Target. Often, the best way to accomplish this is for parents to alert me via email (mberwald@sjusd.org) and then send the card into class with your student in a envelope labeled; Mr Berwald - BH Science - SJUSD
Larger Donations
If you are interested in funding a larger project or piece of equipment, I have a few ideas at a variety of commitment levels. Please send me an email (mberwald@sjusd.org) indicating your interest and we can arrange to meet and discuss the options.
