Grading

Your grade reflects your mastery and/or growth in the concepts we cover. It is understood and recognized that this mastery and/or growth continues over time, regardless of the assessment dates! However, you should understand that there is some reflection, communication, and preparation involved in showing this mastery on our summative assessments. My Course design and management offers many formative assessments to inform you of your progress and gives you many opportunities to improve. If you act upon these in the appropriate manner, you will be prepared for the tests. Sometimes, unforeseen circumstances greatly impact our school lives. It is with this understanding that we will work together to best help you learn.

This Year Assessments will be worth 80% of your total grade and any Daily Work (Homework and Projects) will be worth 20% of your total grade.

A reminder that you need to get a C or better in order to move on in Math. A D or an F will result in retaking the course.

Cheating

"Never Lie, Never Cheat, and Never Steal, and earn the right to be Proud and Confident."

The best policy is to be sure to do and show your own work! Any student who is caught or found to be cheating—or knowingly supporting another student to cheat (i.e., letting someone copy their work)—on any assignment or assessment (even homework) will receive a grade of “F” (0) on it and may be subject to further school disciplinary action for “academic dishonesty”. Splitting up the homework between two or more people and then sharing work and answers is also CHEATING! Everyone is expected to do all the homework and all the problems. It is okay to compare and discuss answers with another student!

Emergency

WHEN THE EMERGENCY ALARM GOES OFF: IMMEDIATELY stop whatever you were doing and put down anything in your hands. REMAIN TOTALLY QUIET! TURN AND FACE MR. APPLING; PAY CLOSE ATTENTION AS HE WILL TELL YOU WHAT TO DO.

Normally, it will be a lockdown or fire drill and we may have to evacuate the building.

Our evacuation “meeting spot” is the small teacher parking lot right outside the building.

When told to “move” and leave the classroom, leave your stuff at your desk and move quickly and quietly to the door and out the hallway, following the evacuation route we will practice! No stopping at the bathroom, going to locker, getting a drink, etc.

Move directly to our meeting spot. Do NOT stop to socialize with others!

We must stay together as a class while out of the classroom! NO WANDERING AROUND! Go immediately back to the classroom following the all-clear. No stopping elsewhere!

For these situations and other emergencies, follow Mr. Appling’s instructions immediately and to the letter!! During such times, he has only one thing in mind—YOUR safety and well-being!!
