American Mathematical Society: UMN Wins 2024 Mathematics Programs That Make A Difference Award
UMN School of Mathematics: Mathematics Project at Minnesota: Yes, you belong here!
The Mathematics Project at Minnesota (MPM) is an annual four day workshop for undergraduates at the University of Minnesota which aims to increase the participation and success of underrepresented groups in mathematics. All undergraduates who support these goals are welcome to participate. The workshop is held the week before the spring semester starts and is organized by graduate students at UMN.
MPM 2025 took place January 14 - 17 in Vincent Hall. Stay tuned for information regarding MPM 2026!
The overarching goal of MPM is to increase the participation and success of underrepresented groups in mathematics.
To this end, MPM aims to help participants:
Build friendships and community in the UMN math department,
Meet math mentors and role-models, and
Learn what being a mathematician is all about!
MPM is open to any undergraduates at UMN who are excited about mathematics and who are interested in furthering the advancement and success of underrepresented groups in mathematics. You do not need to be a math major to participate!
Participation is open to all undergraduate students at UMN and we particularly encourage students from underrepresented groups to participate. Some examples of underrepresented groups in math include, but are not limited to, racial minorities (Black, Latine, Native American), women and people of minority genders, first generation college students, students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, individuals with disabilities, and members of the LGBTQ+ community.
If you have any questions regarding MPM, please email Isidora Bailly-Hall (ibaillyh@umn.edu), Elise Catania (catan042@umn.edu), E Koenig (koeni417@umn.edu), or Marcella Manivel (maniv013@umn.edu).
MPM has been made possible by a generous grant from the MAA Tensor SUMMA Grant, as well as with the support of the University of Minnesota's School of Mathematics.
