The Minneapolis Environmental Justice Arts Sindakitt is an art contest aimed to encourage youth to creatively express Environmental Justice and to provide a space to spotlight the talent of youth artists. The goal of the contest is to raise awareness and inspire collective action to address environmental justice issues facing Minneapolis communities. The contest encourages inclusive participation by youth and judges from a range of backgrounds and experiences.
Application deadline is August 8, 2022. Winners will be announced by August 17 , 2022.
To be eligible, you must answer "yes" to the following questions:
I am 15-18 years of age as of May 8, 2022.
I am a resident of the Minneapolis Northside and/or Southside Green Zones.
A panel of Minneapolis College of Arts and Design (MCAD) students and faculty, environmental justice advocates, and community members. Artwork will be evaluated on the quality of the artwork, originality, and connection to environmental justice.
When creating your artwork, you should think about:
Where, and Who lives in the Green Zones?
What is meant by Green Zones?
What are your views on Environmental Injustice or Environmental Justice?
How can you make a difference in the community with your art
Winners will be awarded the following prizes:
10 winners will attend a free class at MCAD Minneapolis College Arts and Design
FIRST PLACE: 2 winners' Artwork will be displayed on a billboard at George Floyd Square or a billboard at 94 and Broadway.
SECOND PLACE: Artwork displayed on the cover of the first Minneapolis Green Zones Environmental Justice coloring book.
THIRD PLACE: Artwork will be used as the design for the Green Zone member tee shirts.
All submissions will be used to create the Minneapolis Green Zones Environmental Justice coloring book.
Acceptable mediums: Drawings, paintings, illustrations, digital art. No photography.
