Introduction to the MPIA application example
MPIA is a User Application (UA) that aims at handling several flight parameters. It is made up of 3 pages (called WXR, GCAS and AIRCOND) between which a crew member is allowed to navigate using 3 buttons. WXR page is in charge managing weather radar information; GCAS is in charge of the Ground Anti Collision System parameters while AIRCOND deals with settings of the air conditioning.

WXR page (for Weather Radar System) is part of the cockpit set of applications. It allows the crew members to adjust the orientation (the tilt angle) of the weather radar system when needed (the main idea being to use this feature only if necessary as, most of the time, the default behaviour is the correct one).
There are three possible states for tilt angle selection: auto adjustment, auto stabilization and setting up manually the tilt angle (as shown on lower part of figure). The upper part allowing changing the mode of the weather radar independently from the tilt selection).

Pilots interact with MPIA via the Keyboard and Cursor Control Unit (KCCU), that integrates a keyboard and track-ball. When the weather conditions are unclear ahead of the aircraft, pilots may use WXR control panel to receive graphical information about the weather.
