Want to cut student files on the laser cutter from Sketchup for Schools Web version. Unfortunately the laser cutter is managed by Adobe Illustrator - and now you cannot import any DXF/DWG files into Illustrator. I can upload each of the student files to my private Sketchup pro account and then download as an EPS file which works perfectly, however I would rather the EPS option was available so that students can print/cut their own files. Any chance you will add EPS as a file option to the free web version, at least the school version?

Since version 2017 Adobe Illustrator cannot accept and does not recognise DFX or DWG files, at all. However it does accept EPS files, and reads and cuts them beautifully. As a school we do not have licences for the Adobe suite, and cannot afford the ongoing expense of it, however as I stated we do have a few current copies, one of which is the driver for the laser cutter!

Thanks DaveR - I did test your file and this did open, I have used GIMP in the past, however its another software that kids would have to download onto their Macs just for this task - I am trying to get the best workflow solution for being able to cut out their designs on the laser cutter, which is driven by Illustrator (which is an improvement on the ancient version of CorelDraw). I encountered this problem previously about 5 years ago at another school, but the last Google Sketchup Version 2017 did still have a range of download versions, the original issue was changes to Adobe Illustrator back in 2017ish.

I use sketchup and tinkercad a lot for designing products and architecture in 3D, and being able to use the same files for making mockups on the laser cutter is ideal.

Thanks I do have a licence for 2022 but I am looking for a workable solution that students can use directly without any costs! They are encouraged to do the cutting themselves on the Laser cutter, and I can assure you preparing students work for multiple classes is sole destroying!

Has anyone made a fire beast cutter build that works? I've seen a few people mention that they have an arcane beast cutter that wrecks but nobody has posted their stats or gems. I've got one +10 with what I thought were good gems but mine only does around 450 damage.

You are correct, your not thinking of a different version,, But there are Flexistarter versions that are only for Liyu,Refine.Creation.. They are usually sold with those vinyl cutters. I have a version of Flexistarter 7.6 that was sold with my Seiki and only has the Seiki drivers with it.. These versions are sold cheaper so the suppliers can include them with the vinyl cutters. for FREE..... They are not ALL CUTTER Version... But just because Creation is listed, it does not mean that all the drivers are there,, Creation has a lot of different models... And even when he downloads the Flexi driver pack,,,It will probably only include the drivers for the models that UScutter sold...

Inkscape and illustrator are design only programs.you still need something to actually run the cutter and signblazer is the,only free program that comes to mind for that and its a fairly capable design program as well.

according to the docs, Brep.Trim(Brep, Double) should remove parts that are in normal direction of the cutter. However, if used with a flipped Brep as cutter, the opposite part is removed.

How can I create a file that the cutter also recognizes?

Is there a trick? Can I cut directly from Affinity? or in which format do I have to convert the file to be able to cut? Thanks in advance.

If you are just cutting (not print & cutting) you could probably buy cutting software that will connect to the cutter and then you would import eps or pdf or whatever vector you were to export from Designer. But even the cheapest isn't that cheap.

Interesting topic. I too have an old Graphtec craft robo vinyl cutter and it work with affinity designer and publisher just fine. It annoys me a bit that driver for windows 10 is not the best and windows sometimes doesn't detect the cutter. Well it is a 9 years old and it need a replacement.

So I have a question for all Silhouette cutter user. Can you cut with an affinity software? Does the software offer silhouette cameo as an option to print? If it does the probably can be used. with the affinity software just need to be tweaked a bit

This is a new version of a cutter for cables, ropes and ghost nets that I had made a few years ago based on an M200 motor. This one has the new M200 powering it and runs off one of the servo channels on the Navigator. I am intending to sell them on my website very soon. Price is USD300.

That's not the ptfe tubes i'm talking about, it is the other one, the 5 short ones close to the cutter.

The shape of that piece is changed a bit, probably to avoid bending the very end of the filament as it is cut, old one have the slot where the blade moves in more like a V shape, but new one is a bot more flat and supports the filament a bit more.

The controlling PCs running C200MT are very old and need to be replaced. I'm an IT guy, I don't know anything about fabric cutting, but the factory team tells me that we cannot upgrade the PCs because the newer version of C200MT wont work on the old cutters
