PhD in Natural Sciences

University of Oldenburg, Germany

I am a mathematical modeler with interest in understanding the intricate mechanisms driving species relative abundances, spatial distribution and biodiversity patterns in heterogeneous environments. I am also interested in understanding how various ecological and environmental factors contribute to the emergence of infectious diseases. In particular, understanding the forces driving spillover risks at ecosystem boundaries.

I am currently a postdoctoral associate in the Drake lab at the Odum School of Ecology of the University of Georgia, US.

I did my PhD in Natural Sciences (Mathematical modelling and community ecology) at the University of Oldenburg, Germany, 2022. Prior to starting my PhD, I have been a research associate (YSSPer) in the Evolution and Ecology Program led by Ulf Dieckmann at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), Austria. I have pursued my research M.Sc. in Mathematics (Ecological modelling) at the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa, under co-supervision of Cang Hui and Pietro Landi, 2017.  I have received a structured M.Sc. degree in Mathematics from the University of Western Cape via the African Istitute for Mathematical Sciences, South Africa, 2015.
