Welcome to

1st Grade!

What we will learn:

As writers, we will engage in narrative, information, opinion, and argumentative writing.  As mathematicians, we will work with numbers up to 120, explore geometry and measurement, develop multiple strategies for solving problems, and explain and show our math thinking.  As readers, we will read sight words, work with phonics patterns, engage in read alouds, and build our reading comprehension and reading fluency.

Suggestion:

1. Log your child onto Chromebook and Clever at about 9:25am.

2. Once in www.clever.com, click "N.Corbett's Page"

Welcome Note & Updates

Dear 1st Grade Families,

The new school year will begin soon and I am so excited to have your child in my class!

The 2020-21 school year will be my 5th year at the Mozart, but 12th year in Boston Public Schools-- always in first grade.  When not in school with my students, my 3 children keep me very busy at home.

I’ve stayed in grade 1 for so long because it really is a magical year for students’ academic and social development.  One of your child’s first grade goals will be to read and write independently. We will do this everyday in school and you will be amazed at how quickly your child will develop such concepts. They will also begin to spell words correctly, understand math concepts, participate in hands-on math and science activities, work independently and work cooperatively with classmates, and so much more. I look forward to challenging your child, while meeting individual needs.

Best,

Nicole Corbett
