As we are all spending more time at home we are starting to realize more and more how dull and uninviting our homes are. Or that is at least that is how I have started to feel. I want more excitement and beauty in my home since it is all I have seen and will be seeing for the foreseeable future. I don’t want to just decorate for the holidays, though. I want something more permanent for my home. Something I can look at during the day and really just make me happy.
The problem, though, is that all the cute boutiques that I usually buy my home furnishings from are closed. I would buy online from big companies, but I know how swamped delivery people are. I don’t want to order nonessential items and force them to deliver packages to me that I do not really need. I don’t want to put more people in harm's way of catching the virus.
So my dilemma stands. I want new things that can liven up my house without being able to purchase new things from a store or order the products offline to be shipped to me. So I’ve started looking at things I have at home. Surely I have things in storage that will do well for what I am wanting. One thing I am noticing over and over again in my collection is greenery. I love plants (fake and real) and the freshness they bring to my home. Real plants can give off a pleasant aroma that fills my entire house. Even fake plants give off a nice, crisp atmosphere.
If you do not have real plants on hand, I know a lot of stores are doing curbside pick up so you can pick up your new little babies. Most people think they are just going to kill plants; that’s why they never want to purchase new plants. Well, with all this time at home you really can redefine your schedule and spend more time doing the things you want to do. You will have the time to do things you have put off for so long because you “didn’t have time.”
A new thing I have been learning with houseplants is that they really aren’t that needy. Since I have been unable to drive to pick up cute little pots, I have been using cardboard boxes as a simple replacement until I can replant them in new pots. I have found cardboard boxes to be the perfect replacement. The great thing about these are they are porous and soak up any of the extra water the plant does not lead. Excess water leads to root rot for the plants. This is usually what kills plants. They have been watered too much and their containers just hold all of the water. With cardboard, the extra is soaked up so the plant does not get too damp.
