– Filters: Het kan heel lastig zijn om het licht van een vuur of een televisie te filmen. Ze doen nooit wat de regisseur wil. Als ze buiten beeld blijven, maar hun licht wel te zien is, is het verstandiger om te werken met lampen met filters. Een roodfilter voor snippers krantenpapier die voor een lamp bewegen, geeft het effect van vuur. Een televisiescherm kan worden gesuggereerd door een lamp met een blauwfilter waar regelmatig een stuk karton langs bewogen wordt (om de shotwissels te suggereren.)

– Kleurenfilters geven het licht een ander soort kleur. Bijna elke denkbare kleur is mogelijk. Er zijn twee soorten: compenseerfilters, die bedoeld zijn om ongewenste kleuren in het shot te compenseren, en echte kleurenfilters, die bedoeld zijn om gekleurd licht te krijgen. Tegenwoordig gebruikt men hier gekleurde rollen voor die met wasknijpers aan de kappen van de lamp worden gezet. Deze worden gels genoemd.
– Diffuus filters worden gebruikt om hard licht te breken, als er direct maar toch geen hard licht nodig is. Er zijn twee soorten spun en frost. Spun is een dun polyester matje en geeft een oneffen effect aan de lamp, alsof er een zak overeen getrokken is die uit allerlei gaten lichtjes laten komen. Frost geeft meer het effect van een beslagen raam en of douchescherm. Beide zijn in verschillende gradaties te krijgen.
– ND filters worden gebruikt om de lichtintensiteit te verminderen. Ze lijken op kleurenfilters, maar dan met de kleuren bruin, zwart of grijs en wordt daarom ook wel de zwart- of grijsfilter genoemd. Ze hebben hetzelfde effect als een zonnebril.
– Koekeloeris(also called cookaloris of cookies): special kind of masks in shapes in certain fine patterns that provide separate shadow patterns that can make an even surface more interesting. Usually it is placed in front of an extra lamp to make a certain shot more interesting.
