Step-by-step plan for building a home theater

Below we explain how you can approach the construction of a home cinema. Follow the steps and create a home theater in your own home!

Building a home theater, where to start? If you want to take a serious approach to the construction of your home cinema, start with an action plan. There are many factors that not only influence the final result, but also need to be properly coordinated. Draw up the action plan with a partner who can advise you on sound insulation, room acoustics, equipment, speakers, TV, beamer , projection screen, seats and playing the content. It is important that this partner can also advise on air treatment, heating and cooling. After all, your home cinema should be comfortable. Because Mutrox builds professional studios, mix cinemas and home cinemas, we know how to coordinate all these factors. We already take the coordination of the aforementioned into account at an early stage, namely in the design of your home cinema.

Sound insulation of a home cinema: silence in the room! The actual construction of your home theater starts with sound insulation. Your film experience should of course not be disturbed by the noise from the street. To actually keep out the sound from outside the home cinema, proper sound insulation is really necessary. It is also important that the sound of the film remains within the home cinema. The walls should be made in such a way that they do not resonate, absorb low frequencies or cause crosstalk to other rooms

Room acoustics of your home cinema After installing the sound insulation, your home cinema should acquire a timbre. In the bare space it will reverberate enormously and signals will merge. In this cacophony of sounds, definition and placement are completely lost. The sound color of the home theater can be designed according to a standard or according to your own taste. Mutrox prefers to use the Dolby standard. We determine the reverberation time at 500 Hz based on the volume of the room. From this level at 500 Hz, we can design the correct 'reverberation time curve'. With technical means such as diffusers, bass traps and absorbers, we adjust the room acoustics to this reverberation time curve.

Audio format for your home theater Nowadays there are many audio formats. Where in the past only 5.1 and 7.1 formats were available, we can now also choose height channels. They let sound come from the ceiling! The formats that we currently use most often are Dolby Atmos, Auro 3D and DTS-X. For a well-considered choice about the audio format of your home cinema, you can listen to several audio formats. In the showroom of Mutrox you can listen to the audio formats mentioned in a specially equipped listening room.

Speakers for your home cinema When choosing the audio format, you also determine the position of the speakers in your home cinema. Then you have to choose the type of speaker. Mutrox likes to work with Bowers & Wilkins speakers. This prestigious English speaker brand has a huge range of speakers. The Bowers & Wilkins speakers are known for their natural sound reproduction. In addition, we usually opt for an in-wall speaker. The built-in loudspeakers take up little space and can often be completely incorporated into the interior. Also, in-wall speakers do not give out. Always choose a speaker that matches the sound color and size of your home cinema. Would you like a demo of the in-wall speakers? Then contact Mutrox and make an appointment for a listening session in our showroom.

Projection screen or TV in your home cinema? In our opinion, a home cinema always has a beamer and a projection screen. Why? First, a projection screen with an aspect ratio of 21:9 has a much larger movie experience than the 16:9 ratio of most TVs. Secondly, an acoustically transparent projection screen offers the possibility to place the speakers behind the screen. The sound of the film therefore seems to really come from the film. With a TV, the center speaker is always below or above the TV. The sound therefore comes from below or above the TV. A TV is often cheaper than a beamer with a projection screen. However, also remember that a TV also has a large reflection surface in the room.

Chairs or a lounge sofa in your home cinema? Finally, you determine the number of seats in your home cinema. If you want a lot of seating in your home theater, then chairs are the easiest. Always choose comfortable chairs; after all, you are on it for more than 1.5 hours! Take the time with the supplier to get a good picture
