Starting in the 1930’s Palm Springs was an oasis for the movie community, big stars from Garbo to Sinatra either purchased or rented houses here where they could escape the media spotlight in L.A.
Stars and “star-chitects” made this town the grandest of A-list party pads and here are but a few walk-able celebrity estates in both the Movie Colony and Old Las Palmas neighborhoods.
In 1947, Frank Sinatra commissioned legendary Palm Springs architect, E. Stewart Williams, to build Twin Palms, a sprawling, four-bedroom, mid-century masterpiece. Composing and carousing were both on the menu during Ol’ Blue Eyes’ tenure, and this historical house still retains its classic Hollywood charm, while recent upgrades have introduced luxurious, contemporary amenities.

Dean Martin was nicknamed the "King of Cool" for his seemingly effortless charisma. He and Jerry Lewis formed the immensely popular comedy duo Martin and Lewis, with Martin serving as the straight man to Lewis's slapstick, then afterwards he was a star in nightclubs recordings, motion pictures and television. This luxurious compound was a home to the legendary Rat Pack member who bought way back in the 1960's with his second wife Jeanne for $56,000. Now, its value is in millions!

They married in 1939 when he was in the midst of filming the classic movie, Gone With The Wind. After they married, they purchased a 1925 Spanish Colonial home in Palm Springs. Sadly, they were only married for three years because Lombard died in a plane crash in 1942.
Sammy Davis Jr. rented the house for many years in the 1960's and the property was later purchased by the Kirk Douglas's family and his son recently sold the estate for over 2 million.

Located in the heart of the Movie Colony neighborhood, Sand Acre Estate is a 1933 Spanish hacienda rumored to have been frequented by Marilyn Monroe. It's the spot where Joe DiMaggio popped the question and got engaged to Marilyn.
Marilyn Monroe has many legendary ties to Palm Springs. To name a few, she was “discovered” by Johnny Hyde from the William Morris Agency at the Racquet Club. She also owned a bungalow-style house in the early 60's at 1326 Rose Ave - Old Las Palmas (20 minute walk) in the early 1960s.

Dinah Shore was an award-winning television personality and singer known for her string of TV shows. She was passionate about golf and sponsored a women's golf tournament in California—the Dinah Shore Classic—for many years. Shore's first husband was actor George Montgomery and later had a brief marriage to tennis player Maurice Fabian Smith. In the 1970's, Shore became known for her relationship with a much younger man—actor Burt Reynolds.
The Dinah Shore Palm Estate, as most fans of pop culture may know, is now owned by Leonardo DiCaprio who purchased the iconic Donald Wexler designed home in 2014 . There are no pictures of the actor or Golden Globes on shelves. Nothing that might provide a hint that he owns the place. That’s because he primarily uses it as a vacation rental and allows people to use it for special events.
