I hope you and your families are all safe and healthy. I have missed moving with you and look forward to seeing you at school soon, but while you are away from the building, I am staying busy by creating and recording many ways for you to explore your creativity from home, including some movement lessons!
Moving and creating at home is guaranteed to break boredom! You will find activities including learning multicultural dances, movement patterns, creating your own movement patterns, and playing movement games! Explore the world of dance and check out the links to Ballet Folklorico, Ballet Hispanico, Bill T. Jones and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
In the meantime, try some of these moving ideas by yourself or with a parent/guardian/sibling/grandparent to use as a brain break.
Freeze Dance: Turn on your favorite music and dance to your hearts content. When the music stops make a shape using different levels. Have someone turn on and off the music to see if you can listen and stop immediately. Enjoy dancing and moving!
Obstacle Course: Make an obstacle course in your house or outside. Use whatever supplies you have. Example: jump over shoes, skip around chairs, carve under a table, hop around a toy and end upside down. Enjoy dancing and moving!
Mirroring: Put on slow music. With your parent/guardian/sibling/grandparent or by yourself looking in a mirror, move slowly so that others can follow you. Choose who will be the leader and the other/others will follow. Exchange roles. Enjoy dancing and moving each day!
