Dr. Moustafa Moufid Kassem is a highly accomplished Civil and Earthquake Engineer with extensive expertise in seismic vulnerability assessment, structural engineering, and disaster resilience. He is currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), where he focuses on the integration of advanced computational methods and machine learning frameworks to evaluate and mitigate the impacts of earthquakes on structures and infrastructures. Moustafa holds a PhD in Civil Engineering and has over a decade of research and practical experience in seismic risk assessment, specializing in the analysis of reinforced concrete (RC) buildings, structural walls, and earthquake-resistant design. His work spans across a range of disciplines, including finite element modeling, damage detection using advanced machine learning algorithms, and the development of vulnerability models for infrastructure subjected to extreme natural events. Dr. Kassem is particularly renowned for his contributions to earthquake hazard mitigation, where he combines numerical simulations with real-world seismic data to predict structural performance under varying seismic conditions. His research has made significant strides in improving the resilience of urban environments, especially in areas prone to seismic activity. His ongoing projects involve developing seismic vulnerability and fragility models that can inform local building codes and disaster preparedness strategies.
Moustafa has authored more than 50 publications in top-tier international journals, co-authored four books, and holds multiple copyrights related to structural engineering and earthquake impact analysis. He is also an active member of prestigious organizations such as the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). In addition to his research, Dr. Kassem is deeply committed to fostering academic collaboration and mentoring young engineers, positioning himself as a leader in advancing the field of structural resilience and sustainable infrastructure.
