MOUNT ARAYAT
Originally famous for the tales of fairies and other mystical creatures that supposedly inhabit its forests, Mt. ARAYAT is now considered as one of the most popular hiking destinations in the Central Luzon region because of its dominating presence in the mostly flat plains in the are.
The legend of Mt. Arayat involves Apúng Sinukuan, a powerful Kapampangan sun god who became the mountain's fairy protector, Mariang Sinukuan, a compassionate but vengeful fairy who provided for the poor and punished greedy people by turning them into stone or wild boars. Another version of the story tells of two giants moving the mountain from Candaba to its current location and later fighting, which explains the landscape.
