Katy is heading into her 2nd year as the head coach of the Mountainside Dance Team! Growing up in California, she trained in jazz, contemporary, ballet, tap, and hip hop and was on her studio competition team for 15 years. Through high school, Katy choreographed several competitive routines for her hometown studio and worked with local dance and theater groups on various choreography projects.
Katy fell in love with all things dance team after joining the University of California Santa Cruz Dance Team her freshman year of college. By her sophomore year, she was captain of the team, acting as the team’s head choreographer, artistic director, and administrative lead. Katy led 3 successful years of the UCSC Dance Team, organizing all practices, choreography, halftime performances, showcases, and team bonding events.
After graduating college in 2020, Katy made the move to Oregon, where she currently works and resides. She is a competitive choreographer and teacher at several studios in the area, teaching styles such as contemporary, jazz, tap, hip hop, leaps and turns, technique, and musical theater. Katy has choreographed several award winning numbers, placing first at numerous regional competitions and even receiving the Showbiz Regional choreography award this year for her small group contemporary routine as well as the Spotlight Nationals choreography award for one of her jazz routines. This past summer, she also had contemporary routines that placed 1st and 2nd at the Starbound Nationals in Lake Tahoe, CA. Katy is extremely proud to be a Maverick and can’t wait for what the year has in store!!
