In 1927 Abraham and Neva Brown donated an acre of land along Foothill Road to be used as the new Mountain Brook School, if the land ceased to be used for educational purposes, the land would revert back to the Brown family. Mountain Brook continued to grow thanks to many volunteers and community donor with the addition of a second classroom and a teacherage. A gymnasium was constructed by the community in 1968.

The Mountain Brook School District was annexed to the Cayuse Prairie School District in 1992, The school was used for kindergarten through second grade classes for a few years. and by 2001 it was only being used for field trips to nearby Brown’s Creek.

The Mountain Brook Homestead Foundation was established in 2002 as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization by the community to preserve the Mountain Brook campus. Cayuse Prairie leased the campus to the foundation who established the Mountain Brook Community Library which is housed in the gymnasium building.
