Please review the following details prior to the event.
The Mount Afton Challenge will last 2 hours from 8 am to 10 am. Please arrive at least 30 minutes early so that our volunteers can get you checked-in and ready to participate.
Participants check-in: 7:00 - 7:50 am
Participant meeting: 7:50 am
Event begins: 8:00 am
NOTE: Early packet pickup is available on Friday, January 16th at The Wine Room in Afton Village from 11:00 am - 7:00 pm in the back room. (5401 Village Drive, Concord, NC 28027)
Most of the race course will be on community streets. We ask walkers to remain on the right to allow room for runners to pass on the left. Directionals will be on the course to help point the way. We ask that you please respect our neighbors while in this residential section of the course.
Water and basic nutrition will be available at the start/finish line. Participants should bring any specific event day nutrition they prefer. Bathrooms details are provided below.
Although the challenge will last 2 hours, participants are welcome to modify as necessary. Registration does not commit anyone to continuous running/rucking/walking for 2 hours unless you want the challenge. It is simply you vs. you… what you can do in 2 hours!
Please stick around afterwards for the post race celebration. Awards will be presented to top finishers. Also, The Wine Room is opening early to serve food and drinks all morning. The Wine Room has been a great event partner and we hope you will stick around and provide them with a great post-race crowd.
Run as many laps are you can in the allotted time. The cut-off time to start your final lap is 10:00 am. In addition to the digital race clock at the start/finish, volunteers will help provide notice regarding the final lap.
For those competing in the rucker division, a minimum ruck weight of 20 lbs. will be required. The weight is only a requirement for participants going for the Mountain G.O.A.T of Afton title. There is no weight requirement for ruckers not competing. The cut-off time to start your final lap is 10:00 am. In addition to the digital race clock at the start/finish, volunteers will help provide notice regarding the final lap.
We are grateful to have participants taking on the challenge as walkers. Please stay aware of your surroundings as there will be some runners near you at all times. Also, feel free to use the sidewalk around the church, if preferred. Volunteers will help provide notice regarding the final lap.
The Mount Afton G.O.A.T. is the runner and the rucker that logs the most laps in their division on event day. In the event of a tie in the total # of laps, the 1st participant to finish their final lap will determine the winner for each division. There are 8 awards up for grabs this year.
