MOT Test Explained: What, Why and When You Need It.

As a resident of the United Kingdom, you are required to undergo MOT tests, which enable you to drive and park your vehicle on the road. A MOT is an annual test which can be done after the completion of the third year of the vehicle's registration date. It helps to ensure the safety, condition and roadworthiness of the car. It was introduced by the United Kingdom's Ministry of Transport in 1962.  It has been introduced by the Ministry of Transport, which is why it is called the MOT Test Darlington. Initially, there were three checks in these tests: tyres, braking system and steering wheel. However, later, they want to expand some of the components to increase the roadworthiness of the vehicle. Components such as the exhaust system, fuel system, horn, seatbelt, visibility, and many more are checked in these tests. They check all the components which are related to the safety of your vehicles and others. These motors are classified into seven different classes, from class 1 to class 7, ranging from two-wheeler motorcycles to heavy trucks. 

Why are MOT tests required?

MOT was introduced to ensure the road safety and roadworthiness of the vehicle. They inspect almost all components in your car related to the safety and roadworthiness of the vehicle. It is not necessary for humans, but it is also vital for the environment. They help to reduce pollution, which is also harmful to the environment. There are many components related to the safety of the vehicle, including tyres, braking system, visibility, lights, indicators, batteries, exhaust, fuel system, and other essential components necessary for the vehicle's safety. We can understand some of the elements which are checked in the MOT Test Darlington and play a crucial role in road safety. 

Tyres: A tyres play a crucial role in the vehicle's stability and handling. During the MOT test, they check your vehicle tyres and check the conditions of the tyres, including cuts, cracks, bulges, tread pattern and air pressure. They also check the wheel alignment and balancing. Lastly, see if your tread level is above 1.6mm. 

Braking system:- Its plays a vital role in the safety and handling of your vehicle. In the MOT test, the examiner checks different parts of the brake, including brake pads, drums, discs, and brake fluids, which are elements which are checked in the MOT tests. They check your brake efficiency on the rolling wheel. They also check your different devices, which are related to the braking systems, like handbrake, Electronic parking brake, anti-lock brake system and all other components which are checked in these tests.

Exhaust and fuel system:- The exhaust system filters out all the smoke which are produced by the engine. There are many parts which are checked in the MOT test, like the exhaust pipe, tailpipe, catalyst converter, oxygen sensor and all the different components which are attached to the exhaust pipe. They also check all the defects of the exhaust system, including damages, leaks, corroded parts and smoke density of the exhaust system. 

In the fuel system, they inspect various components, including fuel tanks, transmission hoses, and all connections between these components. 

Suspension and steering wheel: These two components are responsible for the stability and comfort of your vehicle. They check your vehicle handling or the functioning of these components. They inspect all the shock absorbers and other components of the suspension and steering axle. 

Visibility:- They also check your visibility. The examiner sits in the driver's seat, which helps them check the driver's visibility. They inspect various components, including the windshield glass, windscreen wiper, bonnet, mirror, and all other elements. 

Lights, indicators and batteries:-  they check your different components like different lights like front, rear, indicators, brake and hazard lights are included in these tests; they check all the functioning of the lights and check the density of the light like your car lights are not dazzle to other persons.

What are the different components which are not checked in these MOT tests?

There are several components that play a crucial role in your vehicle's performance. However, these components are not included in these tests, such as the engine, clutch, gearboxes, and spare parts of the vehicle. These components are not considered checks because they were not regarded as safety equipment. 

What are the different certificates and checks in these tests?

Two types of certificates issued after the MOT tests: the VT20 and VT30 certificates. If you pass these tests without any issues, you will be provided with the VT20 certificate. Otherwise, you will get the VT30 certificate.
