A Motorised Massage Roller (MMR) is an improved foam roller exercising tool to alleviate back pain due to the tension and tightness of your muscle.
Foam rolling or roller massage is a self-conducted exercise to diminishes aches, pain and accelerate recovery that can be achieved by relieving muscle tension. The technique used is myofascial release therapy and is aimed at applying pressure to the body's myofascial connective tissue. The rolling movement and pressure softens and releases tight fascia and sends blood and oxygen to your muscles. However, foam rolling uses a lot of user's physical impetus to operate it. This is where our project step in.
Our project will develop an electrical exercising tool using a foam roller to diminish back pain using the concept of foam rolling. The tool will be able to drive itself in forwards and reverse motion underneath a laying user's body with a system under user command.
This project will focus on manufacturing a prototype with a lot of experimentation, testing and evaluation from a hacked prototype which requires abundant of incremental improvements.
This project mainly aim to manufacture a prototype in order to better understand the development and the mechanism of the product. If the prototype is tested to work, this project will be brought further by the client into commercialisation.
Our prototype is made up from a foam roller, wheel, motor and switch for user's control.
