Originally built in 1926, The Hancock Motor Company building  was designed by legendary architect Stanhope Johnson - an architectural icon of the period. The building was constructed by The Hancock Buggy company as the world transitioned to the automobile. The first floor showroom along Church Street was home to the shiny new transportation icons of the day as the industrial rear of the building offered service and repairs. The second floor was also used for parking/inventory. The true strength of the building lies in the design of the concrete and steel arches which were engineered to carry a heavy load capacity. 

In 1933, after the Great Depression, the Hancock Company added the third floor which was previously just a parking deck. Those 14-foot-high ceilings and large industrial windows remain intact and help to create larger-than-average living spaces.

This mixed-used project was the vision of Daryl & Johanna Calfee of Penny Lane - who together for decades believed in rebuilding and  restoring forgotten homes and buildings. Using Historic Tax Credits, the couple renovated this 26,000+ square- foot industrial building into 19 luxury apartments and a first floor that boasts 8,600 square- feet of commercial and retail space.
