Bored at work so I counted all the dirt bikes, ATV and street bikes.
Dad had a total of 20,
Mom had 7,
I had 18, (but I rode most of them)
Kristy had 3.
A total of 47 bikes and ATVs of the bikes that he "bought for Mom, but "he" raced 3 of them. No wonder we miss riding.
Over 25 years we averaged 2 new bikes per year. Where did our money go? He didn't want to also add purchase prices of the gear, accessories, tires, RVs, trailers, trucks, gas, meals while traveling, entry fees, etc.
We spent over $200,000 buying bikes over the years, $150,000 on motorhomes, $75,000 on trucks and $20,000 on trailers.
After my dad told me this he said, "What do we have to show for all of that money sent?" my instant response was "All that time and money that you spent gave me the tools that I needed when it came time for me to fight for my life. By treating my cancer like one of my many off-road dirt bike races, I had to just focus on the obstacles that were directly in front of my front tire and let the rest come to me as they come. There was no need to think about what might be going to happen next, without knowing where my course or path that I was going to go down next.
Most of the pictures on this page are from when I was an adult and after the time frame in Dad's text but include 2 ATV's, one trailer and 2 of the trucks:
