What is motion sicknesss? Motion sickness, also referred to as sea sickness and travel sickness is defined as a feeling of nausea which occurs when in motion / travelling by car boat train and plane.
What causes Motion Sickness? Well, first we need to talk about the basics of balance. The eyes and ears send signals to the brain about which way the body is facing and how it is moving. These signals are usually in harmony and the brain can successfully determine its current position. Motion Sickness is caused by the signals being in conflict, your eyes are looking at a stationary object but your ears are detecting movement. thus, the only way to cure motion sickness permanently is to stop the conflicting signals.
The only way to actually prevent motion sickness/seasickness is to block the signals from the ear. Captain Arthur's (who has 50 years of nautical experience) method is to use an earplug to create a pressure differential, by using an earplug in one ear, the brain detects an issue with the ears and ignores the signal being sent and the conflicting signals cease. After about 10 minutes, the side effects of motion sickness go away permanently until the earplug is removed.
