What does MotionCut do?
MotionCut extracts individual frames from your videos and lets you style them with filters, borders, and corner adjustments. You can then save these frames as full images or split them into grid tiles for multi-post layouts.
Do I need an account to use the app?
No. MotionCut works entirely on your device without requiring any account, login, or registration. Just install the app and start using it immediately.
Is there a subscription or in-app purchases?
The current version of MotionCut does not include subscriptions or in-app purchases. All features are available once you download the app.
What video formats are supported?
MotionCut supports any video format that your iPhone can play natively. This includes MP4, MOV, and other standard iOS-compatible formats. If you can view the video in your Photos app, you can use it in MotionCut.
How do the filters work?
The app offers three cinematic filters. Noir creates a dramatic black and white effect with enhanced contrast. Mono produces a classic monochrome look. Fade gives your frame a vintage, slightly washed-out appearance. You can also choose to keep the original frame without any filter.
What are grid tiles used for?
Grid tiles let you split a single frame into multiple smaller images that can be posted sequentially on social media platforms like Instagram. The 2x2 option creates four tiles, while the 3x2 option creates six tiles. Each tile is numbered and saved to your Photos library.
Does the app store my videos or frames?
No. MotionCut processes everything locally on your device. The app does not upload, store, or have access to your content beyond the temporary processing needed to extract and style frames. Once you close the app, any temporary files are cleared.
Is my face data collected or analyzed?
No. MotionCut does not perform facial recognition, detection, or analysis of any kind. The app does not store or share any face data or biometric information. Your videos and frames are treated as generic image data.
Why does the app need photo library access?
The app needs permission to read videos from your library so you can select which video to work with. It also needs permission to save the styled frames and grid tiles you create back to your Photos library. These are standard iOS permissions that you control through your device settings.
Can I edit the frame after exporting it?
Once you export a frame or grid tiles, they are saved to your Photos library as regular images. You can edit them with any photo editing app you prefer. Within MotionCut, you would need to go through the styling process again if you want to make changes.
What happens if I accidentally close the app?
MotionCut does not currently save your work in progress. If you close the app before exporting, you will need to start over by selecting your video, extracting the frame, and applying styling again. Make sure to export your work before closing the app.
Can I use MotionCut frames commercially?
The frames you create are based on videos you own or have rights to. MotionCut does not claim any ownership of your content. However, you are responsible for ensuring you have the appropriate rights to the original video content before using extracted frames for any purpose.
How do I report a bug or request a feature?
You can reach us at support@motioncut.app with any bug reports, feature requests, or general feedback. We review all messages and use them to improve future versions of the app.
Will the app work without an internet connection?
Yes. MotionCut works completely offline. Since all processing happens on your device and there are no server connections, you can use the app anywhere without requiring an internet connection.
