After class today, I headed over to the Wallace Collection's tea room with Hayley and two of our friends to try an afternoon tea. It was a cute area, with delicious pastries!
Spoiler alert: it turns out, I'm not a chamomile tea person. I tried it to make my writing authentic, because I have a character in my book who drinks chamomile tea, but I think I'm going to have to change their drink of choice.
I had Monday night free, and I'd been hoping to see an authentic Shakespeare show at the reconstruction of Shakespeare's Globe, so Hayley and I decided to go see Shakespeare's Henry VIII. I bought a seat in the upper tier. No photography was permitted during the show, so I wasn't able to get any pictures of the performance.
It was... different. I mean, I was glad to see it and the actors did a good job, but they added musical numbers and bawdy props that altered the original script. I was hoping to see a word-for-word Shakespeare play, but the actors did good and at least I got to experience the Globe how it would've been!
As the final event for the social program, we went on a river cruise up the Thames and drank afternoon tea. (Or, in my case, coffee.) I decided to stop over at Tower Bridge for some pictures. Then, like any true Harry Potter fan would, I made a quick stop at Platform 9 3/4 at King's Cross Station.
This is a fragment of the original Roman wall, just a few streets away from the Tower of London.

Afternoon coffee and pastries (I'm not a coffee drinker either, but I preferred it to tea).
Behind me is the Shard, one of the tallest buildings in the area.
This is the heart of Tower Bridge.

After the river cruise, I went to King's Cross Station to get a picture at Platform 9 3/4, from Harry Potter. I got to wield a wand and wear a Harry Potter scarf!
