Mosarruf Hossain Shawon is a doctoral student in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Kansas. He works as a Graduate Research Assistant at the Cooperative Unmanned Systems Laboratory (CUSL). At CUSL, his research focuses on the use of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) for wind velocity and direction estimation, with an emphasis on the complex wind dynamics, such as wildland fire environments, wake generated by aircraft, volcanic plumes, and urban canyons. He recently developed a vertical wind velocity estimation algorithm over an active fire using a small flying wing UAS. He is also a student member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). He pursued his B.Sc. in Aeronautical Engineering from the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Before starting his PhD, He was selected as a Fellow of Teach for Bangladesh’s educational leadership development program. This is a 2-year fellowshipprogram designed to address the education inequality problem in Bangladesh. He was working in a high-need school as a teacher where he facilitated interactive sessions, assessed students' progress, and promoted joyful learning. As part of the fellowship program, He pursued a Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Educational Leadership from BRAC University.
