Members' Rights and Responsibilities

Rights

As a member of MOSAIC, you have the right to:

  • Use all common spaces and other communal facilities in your house
  • Attend and participate in all meetings of your house, meetings of the Board of Directors, and general meetings of the whole MOSAIC membership. (This includes the right to speak and make proposals at all meetings.)
  • An equal vote at house meetings, general meetings of the membership, and in referenda
  • An equal voice to that of all other MOSAIC members, in all MOSAIC spaces
  • A safe living environment, free from harassment, judgment, discrimination, and invasions of privacy
  • Participate in all MOSAIC activities

Responsibilities

As a member of the co-op, you have several responsibilities in addition to your rights. The co-op's short- and long-term success depends on everyone doing their best to meet these responsibilities:


  • Fulfill your basic house responsibilities, including:
    • Completing 4-5 hours of chore duties per week, equitably sharing in the duties of the house
    • Paying all rent and other charges in a timely fashion
    • Attending & participating in weekly house meetings
  • Upon moving into the co-op, agree to live cooperatively according to cooperative principles and our mission statement, and continue to educate yourself about the cooperative movement
  • Respect the safety, privacy, well-being, and other rights of all MOSAIC members
  • Be respectful & open to others' ideas, and maintain the MOSAIC community through a positive attitude, collaboration, and participation in MOSAIC events
  • Abide by the democratic decisions of the members in your house, as well as the MOSAIC-wide policies set by the whole membership of MOSAIC and/or the Board of Directors
  • Abide by the expectations of your house's landlord
  • Respect the co-op's neighbors, and represent MOSAIC positively to the larger community
  • Support and assist in efforts to develop MOSAIC and further the mission of the organization
  • Take initiative to go beyond your minimum requirements, and put your energy into developing and ensuring the longevity of this organization
