For more affordable options one could look at the outskirts of Amsterdam, for example Diemen (2 minutes by train to Amsterdam Science Park), Amsterdam-Zuidoost (connected by metro to Amstel Station, from which busses go to Amsterdam Science Park), or Weesp (7 minutes by train from Amsterdam Science Park).
