PGY- I residents spend six blocks purely in the department of emergency medicine (EM) working 18 shifts per block. Two months are spent in the medical intensive care unit (MICU) and surgical intensive care unit (SICU). The remaining five months are spent in EM/anesthesiology, obstetrics (OB), ultrasound, pediatric EM, and on the trauma team in Morristown Medical.
PGY- II residents spend eight blocks in the department of emergency medicine working 17 shifts per month. Two blocks are spent in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Morristown Medical. One is spent in the Pediatric EM at Morristown Medical and one in the Emergency Department on the trauma service. The remaining block is spent on Toxicology with New Jersey Poison Center.
PGY- III residents spend nine blocks in the department of emergency medicine working 16 shifts per month. Two months are devoted to working on Trauma with the option to spend one of those trauma months at Maryland Shock Trauma. One month is spent as an elective, 2 weeks spent on selective, and 2 weeks spent on Pediatric Anesthesia/ED ultrasound. Pediatric shifts are longitudinal, and interspersed each month, as are shifts at our community site in Hackettstown.Â
