This conference is in the past.
Boulder, Colorado is a high desert environment, with low humidity and 300 days of sunshine a year, sitting at 5,430' above sea level. Most people will notice some effects of altitude. You may have a headache and find yourself winded doing moderate activity. Your skin may burn more easily in the Colorado sun. The effects of alcohol may be heightened. Our advice: Slather on the sunscreen. Drink lots of water, and take it a bit easier than you would at sea level.
Denver International Airport (DIA; airport code DEN) is an enormous airport and is a hub for several major airlines. Landing at DIA can sometimes be turbulent with the meeting of the mountain and high plain winds, especially in late afternoon/early evening. If that concerns you, try to land before 3pm.
The airport is about 45-60 minutes southeast of Boulder. There are a few reliable ways to get to town.
Skyride AB1 bus (direct public bus service) - $10 - From the airport terminal, follow signs for the Transit Center. Get a ticket ($10) from the kiosk or using the RTD-Denver app. Take the AB1 (NOT AB2; the AB2 takes a different route through Boulder and does not come near the hotel.) For the Moxy hotel, your stop is Pleasant St. at Broadway. This is right across from the hotel.
Taxi or ride share - $60 - $115.
EightBlack airport shuttle van - $60 - The van departs the airport once per hour. Book online.
Invited guests will be staying at Moxy Boulder, a new hotel adjacent to campus and a 14-minute walk from the conference site. If you would like to get our conference rate of $189/night for your stay, book before March 14 using this link. (Valet parking = $40/day; minimal street parking)
We can also highly recommend the Hotel Boulderado, about a 30-minute walk from the conference, in the heart of downtown. (Valet parking = $30/day; public metered parking)
Basecamp Boulder is typically more affordable than either of these two hotels; it is between downtown and campus, about a 20-minute walk from the conference site. (Parking is free, on-site.) Clustered together about a 20-minute walk from the conference you can find Residence Inn, Boulder Marriott, Hilton Garden Inn, and Embassy Suites. (These are in a busy area that is filled with strip-malls, about a 30-minute walk from Boulder's bustling downtown.)
It is fairly easy to get around the downtown and campus areas on foot. Most campus locations can be navigated to by name (e.g. University Memorial Center) using Google Maps.
Boulder is well connected by public bus service. The HOP line will get you closest to the conference site; exit at the intersection of Folsom and Colorado.
You can also get around town using bike-share ($7 for 30 minutes) or using Lime electric scooters. All the usual ride share services (Lyft, Uber) are readily available.
