Prof. Prasad exploits the powerful combination of sophisticated genetic analysis with live cell imaging to elucidate the molecular and cellular mechanisms that govern collective cell behaviour in mediating metazoan morphogenesis. He employs the Drosophila oogenesis model to address cell fate specification, epithelial cell shape transformation and group cell movement. He joined IISER-Kolkata in Dec 2009 and was awarded Ramalingaswami fellowship in 2010. Before joining IISER-K, he trained as post-doctoral fellow under Prof. Denise J. Montell at the Dept. of Biological Chemistry, Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, Baltimore, U.S.A and was instrumental in identifying culture condition for live imaging stage 8 egg chambers. He carried out his PhD work at Center for Cellular & Molecular Biology, Hyderabad, India (CCMB, Hyderabad) under supervision of Prof. L. S. Shashidhara to understand appendage development in flies.
