Overview:

We will experience the wondrous adventure of living in Book of Mormon times. We will be immersed in reenactments from the Book of Mormon, epic battles, powerful discussions, challenging games and great food.
During the day all youth will belong to one of our 23 tribes.
Each Ward will meet every evening at their respective campfires for their own ward activities such as firesides. The themes/plans for these will be given to the Bishop's.
At night, the youth will camp in wards, in designated areas. There will be separate male and female camps which will be a considerable distance from each other- across the great divide (of Stake Leaders :D)
We expect all who attend this conference to act in accordance with the spirit of the Quest. Please come expecting to feast upon food, fun and the Book of Mormon.
Please be mindful that your fun and ward activities do not distract from the Spirit we are inviting.
As with anything of worth, you will only get out of Quest, what you put into it.
Those who willfully disobey the rules and guidelines of Moroni’s Quest could be sent home.

Cost:

There will be a $30/youth registration fee ; up to a maximum of $60/family

When:

Friday, July 13 - Monday, July 16, 2018;

Meet at the Stake Center, Friday July 13th at 7:00 am, dressed in costume with your satchel and water bottle! We will be returning at approximately 4:00 pm Monday, July 16th to the Stake Center.

Eligibility:

All youth who are currently in Gr. 9 up to and including all youth graduating from Gr. 12 in 2018.

Costume Ideas

Here are some “Please Do’s” and some “Please Do Nots” that you should consider when planning your costume for Moroni’s Quest.

Costumes are to be worn at all times (except when sleeping). This helps us to be totally immersed into the world and times of the Book of Mormon.
Two complete costumes are required.
Every Participant needs a satchel (see picture below) that hangs from one shoulder large enough to hold their Book of Mormon, Journal, pen, marking pencils and water bottle(all but the satchel is provided by the Stake). PLEASE DO NOT use extra bright colors or neon, fabrics with large distracting print patterns or large flower patterns. (Always err on the conservative side and try to imagine plain and simple clothing worn by people at this time.)
Costumes are to be just below the knee in length. It is acceptable to cut a short slit up the sides for ease of movement. Please reinforce the slits as the Battle Scenes are quite active and these side slits can get easily torn.
Make costumes large enough to accomodate clothing worn underneath. You are encouraged to wear a t-shirt (if necesary) and modest shorts underneath the costume at all times. If the weather is cool, you may want to also wear jeans or sweatpants underneath.
As the mornings and evening can be cool, you may want to also wear a light jacket. Keep in mind that all jackets and hoodies are to worn underneath the costume. Make your costume is large enough to accommodate for this.
For costumes, use earth-tones, blues, greens, browns and natural colors that would have been used in Book of Mormon times. Fabrics that look woven or have a striped pattern are fine. PLEASE DO NOT use extra bright colors or neon, fabrics with large distracting print patterns or large flower patterns. (Always err on the conservative side and try to imagine plain and simple clothing worn by people at this time).
We highly recommend you have a head covering such as a “shepherd’s” head covering to protect against the sun. No ball caps, cowboy hats, toques, or other inappropriate headgear will be allowed. Each youth will also receive a headband from their Tribes which will help secure your headgear.
Footwear - you will need two pairs of good shoes or runners that can get wet. One of these may be replaced with a sturdy pair of sandals that do not easily come off. NO FLIP FLOPS. The terrain is rough and you will be doing a fair amount of walking as well as participating in war re-enactments. We also cross the river many times a day.
Always remember that modesty is the key with all costumes.
Have fun accessorizing your costume with trims, buttons, sashes, tie belts, contrasting materials. Etc. but alway keep in mind that you are trying to look like the people at the time of the Book of Mormon.

General Information

*Everyone, leaders and youth, brings their own mess kits(plate, bowl, spoon, knife, fork, cup) in a clearly labelled mesh bag (very important as they hang to dry)

Water Supply:

All water used will be supplied.
Do not use water from creeks or ponds.

Toilets:

There will be a sufficient number of portable toilets provided.
Do not go into the woods or behind trees for this purpose. Remember you are not alone.
We are guests at this site and must leave the area in better condition than we found it.
Please keep the portable toilets clean and sanitary for the next person.

Garbage:

There will be garbage cans around the campsite. Please deposit any of your personal garbage as well as any garbage that you may find into these cans. We are in bear country so do not dispose of any garbage anywhere other than specified cans, not even apple cores or peelings of any type. These will attract unwanted critters.
All individuals will be responsible for maintaining a clean camp site and depositing all garbage to the general garbage area each night.
Prior to departure all campsites will need to be totally cleaned. Bishops will need to ensure that ward sites are maintained and cleaned properly.

Campfires:

Campfires will only be allowed in designated fire rings.
Each Ward will be required to provide firewood for their Ward's campfire site. There is ample dead-fall on the premises and each Ward will be gathering and storing it at their campfire site prior to Quest. Each ward will also need a fire extinguisher kept by their campfires.

Water:

There is a shallow river that runs through the property. We will be crossing through it many times during Quest. Please wear footwear appropriate for this. As with all water, exercise wisdom and good sense when using it to cool off.

Respect Nature:

Within all of the activities please show respect and care for the beautiful area that we are fortunate to live in.

Moroni’s Quest Packing List 2018

Come dressed in one set of Quest clothing.

Bring the following with you on the bus:

Satchel
Water bottle
Light jacket (if needed that can be worn under costume)
Pack or wear shoes that can get wet but that are also sturdy enough for hiking over uneven & rough terrain. Good Quality hiking sandals are ideal or quick drying runners. We will be crossing the creek many times a day.
Optional Headgear that matches Quest theme if desired. Youth will be receiving headband from tribe *No ball caps, toques, etc.

Bag with remainder of gear

This could be an appropriate sized hockey bag, camping pack or duffle bag. Try to get all items into one bag if possible.
This bag will be taken to the camp by the your Wards on Thursday, July 12th.
Clearly mark this bag with a tag showing name, gender and ward.
You will not see this bag until you arrive at camp Friday evening.

Clothing and equipment checklist

2 sets of Quest clothing. (One to be worn on first day)
3 T-shirts (no sleeveless, no neon colors) if costume requires for modesty
2 pairs of shorts to be worn under tunic.
Matching belt for tunic if desired
Daily change of underwear and socks.
Raincoat or poncho
Sturdy quick drying runners or hiking sandals that can get wet
2nd pair of shoes optional.
Modest pajamas or sweats for sleeping
Light jacket (in satchel if needed)
Sleeping bag & pad and blanket if needed

Cell phones-No service, we have 2 photographers & one drone camera as well. We are in the water lots and phones will be damaged.
