Our story starts in 2012 when the High Park Fire Burned 87,000 acres in Northern Colorado. Johnny Morning had a saw mill operation at that time which was lost in the fire. Fast forward to 2018 when Johnny and his good friend Stevie Wood were brainstorming on a warm Colorado evening. Why don't we mill up these half burned trees all around us, they contemplated? Turned out after air drying for 6 years many of the trees had usable lumber in them and when opened up the logs had beautiful patterns along with the burn scars. So Johnny Morning and Stevie Wood purchased a Peterson ASM, which is one heck of a sawmill, and started Morning Wood Millworks.

We also mill beams up to 20 inch by 20 inch by 24 feet milled from Ponderosa Pine and Douglas Fir and slabs up to 10 inches thick and 20 inches wide. We can produce larger slabs if needed. We are actively seeking to salvage logs from local tree removal operations which include hardwoods to expand our offerings. We are working with Timber Framers, architects and custom furniture builders and can mill to your specifications using your trees or ours. Let us know what you need!
