The Morning Glories (MG) website’s purpose is to provide a clearinghouse of information for visitors seeking AA support in general and Morning Glories in particular. The policies below are intended to protect, as much as possible, the privacy and anonymity of all MG site visitors, members, and attendees in the digital sphere, while providing information, a means to welcome newcomers, and facilitate gathering together as an AA group. These policies do not cover social media.
Notes of Caution for Members
Members of Alcoholics Anonymous are anonymous. The Fellowship is not. Members of AA are responsible for maintaining their anonymity and respecting the anonymity of other AA members. We share a responsibility to guard the anonymity of our fellow members.
Outside sites and tools that MG uses, including Zoom, Google Drive, Google Hosting and Google Apps, Venmo, PayPal, Stripe, and Sign Up Genius are not under the control of MG; anonymity is not fully protected in these tools.
There is a Sunday round robin list linked to on the website that contains first names and last initials.
Members may want to use an alternative email address for MG-related activities.
Trusted Servants and Passwords
MG relies on a cadre of volunteers with varying amounts of sober-time, including but not limited to those holding past and present service positions.
Trusted Servants have access to the list of MG confidential group passwords that facilitate smooth group operations, including access to the MG:
Trained Hosts and Chairs also have access to credentials for the tools below. Credentials are granted after training is complete:
Passwords will be changed between the April and May Business Meeting, every year. The MG webmaster is responsible for changing passwords when required, including when there is a security breach.
Passwords used to protect group assets should be difficult to guess and not shared in an insecure manager. When the MG webmaster creates passwords they should try to use a combination of digits, upper, lower case, and symbols and not full words or AA language. There should be no duplication of passwords.
In keeping with our Seventh Tradition, MG pays its own website maintenance expenses. It does not use any hosting service that requires the inclusion of mandatory advertising space or links to commercial sites as consideration for their use.
Linking to Other AA Sites
MG’s site may link to other AA websites to broaden its scope and facilitate service to members. Please note that MG service folks do not monitor these AA sites and rely on members to indicate if a link is broken or content at the remote site has changed.
Linking to Non-AA Sites and Tools
Links from the MG site to any other sites or tools do NOT imply endorsement or affiliation.
If possible, MG’s site will serve an exit disclaimer language when visitors are leaving the site, i.e., You are now leaving the Morning Glories website; your destination may not guarantee anonymity or privacy.
Documents or resources (calendars, sheets, etc) linked to from the MG site must be password-protected if possible.
NOTE: The MG site links to SignUp Genius for tracking service signups. SignUp Genius does not guarantee anonymity or privacy; visitors are encouraged to not indicate their full name and/or use an alternative email for this tool.
The MG website will not publish or display any visitor/member’s name or identifying information without that individual’s permission.
The MG website offers visitors electronic contribution options including PayPal, Venmo, and Credit Card (through Stripe). These financial services do guarantee privacy with the proper settings, but they do not guarantee anonymity.
The webmaster will make changes to the website only after said change is approved at a business meeting. Changes include new content, links, deletions, or revisions. Exceptions to this are permitted in unusual or urgent circumstances, after checking with the secretary. Exceptions are also permitted for date-specific events like the alkathons and the annual party.
The MG email address is morninggloriescambridge@gmail.com. This Gmail account is intermittently accessed, depending on the availability of our Trusted servants. Generally, responsibility for monitoring and responding to the Gmail account is the MG Group Secretary and the Communications Coordinator.
When sending service correspondence to multiple members at once, it is important to maintain their anonymity. Use the blind carbon copy (BCC) line or create a distribution group or list with a meaningful title. Don’t use program words, such as “Twelve Step,” in the title, which might compromise anonymity when the message shows up in the receiver’s email in-box.
Each member decides if It is advisable to set up a second email address for MG correspondence. If a service body has ongoing service positions that use email, we may create email accounts for the positions, such as secretary@mg or treasurer@mg. Accounts can then be passed on to the next person filling that position simply by changing the forwarding information.
The MG Master contact list is a Google doc and is available to any MG attendee who requests it by emailing morninggloriescambridge@gmail.com. We do not link from the website to this contact list. Given the nature of email addresses, this list does not protect anonymity. Members may use an alternative email address to avoid providing last names or other identifying info.
The MG Training contact list is a Google contact list and is available to servants who have MG’s Google login credentials. We do not link from the website to this contact list. Given the nature of email addresses, this list does not protect anonymity.
