Morhaf Aljber is a postdoctoral researcher at the Graduate School of Advanced Science and Engineering, Hiroshima University, Japan. He earned his PhD in engineering from the Graduate School of Innovation and Practice for Smart Society at Hiroshima University.
Morhaf specialises in CFD simulation, numerical modelling, remote sensing, and GIS spatial analysis. His research spans marine renewable energy and coastal hazards with a particular focuses on tidal power and ocean engineering.
During his master's programme, he investigated the interaction between the tsunami run-up waves and coastal structures using the Basilisk flow solver. His study incorporated three different numerical models and developed a framework for better predicting tsunami arrival times. Additionally, Morhaf studied and identified the optimal locations for tidal stream energy in the Seto Inland Sea in Japan with multi-criteria analysis.
During his Ph.D. studies, Morhaf researched the economic feasibility of tidal stream energy in the Seto Inland Sea alongside developing a novel CFD model for tidal turbine simulation. The developed NS-BSM reproduces wake structures at accuracy comparable to three-dimensional methods, with approximately three orders of magnitude lower computational cost.
Currently, his research focuses on quantifying tidal currents using satellite imageries and videos along with developing and enhancing high-fidelity NS-BSM model for optimal tidal farms alignment and configuration. His interests include the potential contribution of tidal power to the energy sector in Japan, the barriers that delay the adoption, and the solution for integrated tidal power potential.
