Morgan's Message

Morgan’s Message strives to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health within the student-athlete community and equalize the treatment of physical and mental health in athletics. We aim to expand the dialogue on mental health by normalizing conversations, empowering those who suffer in silence, and supporting those who feel alone. Our chapter looks to amplify the stories within our own community.

Morgan's first battle with her mental health presented itself while effortlessly juggling the multitude of programs actively recruiting her. Quickly learning how to manage her anxiety, Mo seamlessly transitioned into her role as a Duke lacrosse player. During the peak of her blossoming career, Morgan endured a career shattering knee injury; during her long period of rehabilitation, she felt a sense of loss for not only her future but for whom she identified - an athlete, and a teammate. While she presented a strong, happy, resilient face to her community, she silently battled her seemingly insurmountable feelings of anxiety and now depression.

Morgan died by suicide in July of 2019 at the age of 22.
