This site for 5 of my completed major assignments In composition 101. In this class we were tasked with 5 assignments each presenting a different task. Each assignment helped me learn a new aspect about myself, someone else, or something else. Each assignment brought something slightly different to the table for me because each assignment caused me to have to think deeper about different aspects of something. This was the theme of the course, finding something more meaning full in everyday things in our lives. Like ourselves, the people around us, or the things we interact with every day. Each of these assignments were fun to do and at the same time difficult because of what each assignments demands from me as a writer. It was fun looking at things in a different way than I usually would.
First, the second assignment we had was to interview someone that was a hero or villain in our lives. This introduced the idea of adding verbal media to our writing. This task ended up being something that was hard to do at first but ended up becoming more interesting to do. The reason why it was difficult at first is because when you have to try and conduct your writing based around what the person you are talking to says. This can provide difficulties because if the person you are speaking to doesn't go in the direction with the interview you want it to go to it could cause you to have to change your topic completely. But it is cool listening to the stories of other people and re listening to the tapes and pulling out what you can use that will help your paper.
Secondly, the use of media with a group provided some problems with the final work. Our last assignment in the course was over making a empathetic video about a cause we are interested in. This provided a issue for a couple different reasons, for one working with a group ended up becoming more of a challenge than I thought because of the fact that everyone has their own lives they have to get to and this made doing the video became more of a challenge than I initially thought it was going to be. The second issue with the project was trying to figure out how to add visuals to my writing, for example what images should I show or should I show images with the story I was trying to tell verbally with my story.
Lastly, Each assignment connected with each other in some way. The first assignment dealt with finding the stranger in you, in some ways the second assignment dealt with us finding the stranger in others. The third assignment dealt with finding the strange in things we are surrounded by everyday, where the fourth assignment dealt with finding the things we would never look for with certain hate groups. The last assignment caused us to look at current topics in a different light. These aspects all overlap with each assignment, eventually culminating with what my final portfolio is.
