Notes for learning Torah Trope (after learning Haftara trope)
- The process for Torah trope is essentially the same as learning trope for Haftara
- The Torah trope are sung 'higher' and in a 'major' melodic framework
- In general, preparing Torah readings is more rigorous with great care being placed on accurate reading and execution of the trope/chanting
Preparing for Torah readings
- Read the text (you can even read the text on the "Torah side" as you prepare - the text without vowels or trope)
- The correct reading of the words is greatly underscored
- Sing the Trope for your parasha (section)
- Put the Trope and text together (remember to start each section with "amen")
- Use of a 'yad' or pointer is highly recommended
