Nintendo didn't went all out with their games this year, with the exception of one of their best game ever made, release during summer. But it was an incredible year with strong 3rd party release, including ones I've wanted for years, but never expected to comes true. I was busy since the beggining of 2023, so it tooks me longer than I expected, but I'm proud to finally share my awesome 2022 experience with videogames! For a reminder, my philosophy for this articles is not to talk too much about the negative aspect of the games, but much more of the fun I had with these. Okay, let's start this!

I never played the original, so it was my first experience with Pokémon Pearl. While it certainly have its fair share of negative point, my point here is to talk more about the positive, since you already know the controversial stuff that I also agree. But yeah, I don't mind the chibi character, it have its charm I think. The story kinda surprise me, for a Pokémon perspective. The content for the legendary and everything is fun to do. While it doesn't go beyond gen 4, it's absolutely fun to see. The structure, except for no new postgame content and megaevolution, remind me of the Pokémon ORAS game. The music is also immersive, has it made you feel you go into a great journey. So, do I recommend it? Well, it depends: it's in the most difficult Pokémon games to complete, IMO, so except if you want challenge with a Pokémon game you never played or you want to replay your childhood handheld memories into the big screen, you should check the other Pokémon games available on the Switch. For my part, it was a good experience, but not the best in the series.

I already talked about this game in 2019 and 2021. But now, I've finished it. You can check my review of it for the 2019 and 2021 articles for everything good I said about it. While the age of gameplay element is discutable, the music and story have been great. Not mindblowing and far from the best, like some folks on the internet that didn't play too much RPGs pretend, but a good story still. It was satisfying to beat the final boss (with an incredible theme, by the way) and seeing the ending cutscene. But when you consider from which period it came out, I think it's an amazing experience, with some struggling dungeons.

I bought this game in 2018, after being at an IRL indie devellopers event and meeting the creators of this game. It motivates me to purshase this 2D Platformers. However, I didn't had too much time, so it's only in 2022 that I had the chance to spend time on it and finished it. First, you have two audio options: canadian french, made by one popular actor from my homeland, and english. The voice is the owl that travel with the character you control, who live in a dark underworld. The platforming is often very hard, but fortunately you don't have life, so you can retry as many times as you want. If you want a short time with a challenging 2D platformer, this is your game!

It's not so long after I reviewed it in 2021, but I finally finished the main story mode of the game. It's not something mindblowing, but it's interesting to know more about the characters of the game. I'm still a newbie with this game, but it's nice when you're able to do a difficult combo!

After the disappointement that were the Ryza games (despite what I said back in the days), Atelier Sophie 2 was a breath of fresh air, while bringing back what was so good about Atelier games. It is set between Atelier Sophie 1 and Atelier Firis, in the timeline. Something important that happen with this game is now the game go straight from exploring to battle, with no wait time! What is most surprising in that is that the game is a huge step up graphically (yes, even on Switch), which is surprising but nice to see! The story is not mindblowing, but a cozy adventure, as you expect in Atelier game, where Ryza falled into very generic RPG story unfortunately. The world is superb! It's a dream world, so you can change your envirronnement, like the weather for example and have floating watter bubble all around you. The characters are colorful as ever and the return of turn-based combat is a blessing. A must play if you like slice of life adventures and dreamy worlds! Ha yes, the music tracks are still bangers here!

I received as a gift from a mutual some years ago, but I finally finished it. It is a supernatural visual novel adventure where you live in a countryside japanese town, resolving mysteries with your classmates. Not much to say more here, but there a bit of romance with some characters, and some true nature of some characters made me change my mind about them. If your a VN enjoyer, this is for you!

After playing the No More Heroes trilogy in 2021, I finally played the spinoff. I struggle as certains levels here and there, but it was an overall enjoyable experience. There reference to many games genre, as Travis is a gamer and goes into a fictive game console. Whatever it's 2D platformer, racing against challengers or some VN adventure, there's something for everyone... that love M rated games of course! If you love the No More Heroes games, you should give it a try!

This isn't a game, but since it's experienced on a gaming platform, I count it, like I did with Funimation on the previous gaming year review. But ho boy, it was about time to finally having the biggest anime library on the Switch, my Wii U can finally rest in peace. I was starting to be tired to watch my animes on phone as well. So, what made this version better? You could wtach animes on the Gamepad, with the Wii U, but it has to be near the console and not in HD. With the Switch you can watch your animes anywhere thanks to the portability, but also because now the app is the same as the phone and computer ones, which means you can download episodes to watch them offline, if your subscription is Super Fan. The UI is the same as other devices version, which is easy to use. Your episode are now in HD on the go, but the TV resolution is even better than it's Wii U counterpart. So it's the best console to watch your favorite season on, thanks to it's many options! And isn't nice to watch a weekly episode before and after some gaming session of your favorites Switch games? I do!

I bought it back in 2020, but finally decided to play the GP. Like my comments of Super Mario 64 in 2020, I don't have too much praises for this game. I supposed it's more fun to play this one with friend in VS mode, but from my solo main mode experience, I found the controls horrible... But aside from that, it was fun to play the course that didn't make it yet to modern Mario Kart games, and the music was good. Still, I don't recommend this game to anyone, since you can play most tracks of this game in modern Mario Kart games. But the bonus CD was great, at least.

It strangely took me long before finishing this game, but consider this: it release at the end of the second year of the Switch and didn't have too much time for it. But I finally decided to spend time on it and finished it. As I played the original DS version, I focused mostly on the main story here. It's not much different, and it's technically better. You can hold the hammer as much as you want, giant battles are now in 3D, the Dream Team graphics are still the best and fit perfectly with this game & some boss have now unique tracks. All that to say this remake is perfect. The only problem is I'm older, so I can't spend more time than this and it's basically the same as the original. So only if you never played the original, I suggest to play this version instead, but if you did play it, not much recommend except if you're a big fan of the series.

This is the Mario Sport I've been waiting for! This new entry of the best Mario sport spinoff is here! It's the first Mario Strikers game that can be played handheld as well. While I would have love much unlockable bonus content and less free updates and more terrain hazards, the game was still great to play! The controls are excellents and the animations superb! If you want some amazing SOCCER (looking at you, europeans friends...) fun with your friends, I reccomend it!

While Three Houses had one of the best story of the franchises, the gameplay and monastery (the base) was my least favorite of the modern Fire Emblem games I've played. I know I've praised the gameplay of the game in my 2019 review, but it was at a time I didn't replay the game and compare to other modern Fire Emblem games. So yeah, as I was excited to see a new Fire Emblem game that Three Hopes was, but having to deal with Three Houses universe again didn't made me excited. But playing Three Hopes changed my mind. The story is as enjoyable as ever, and having a new protagonist and making Byleth an antagonist really gave Fódlan a breath of fresh air. The warriors gameplay is still as good as Fire Emblem Warriors as well. Funny enought, Three Hopes having the legendary weapon triangle made me realised that Three Houses doesn't have it, which is why I didn't enjoyed so much the gameplay. Back to this game, having to play battle without time limit is good to see again, thought having some support convos no longer available if you progress fast in the story isn't very fun... So I basically enjoyed it. For story reasons, I only recommend this game if you played Three Houses. If you didn't, as much as the game is good, I can't recommend it. But a new Fire Emblem game was announced last September and is coming in 2023, so better keep an eye on it!

This game... So much to say about it, the game of life! What is fun for accessibility is while it have connection with Xenoblade Chronicles 1 & 2, you don't have to play them to enjoy the story of this one, so you can play it as your first game of the series. But you really should play 1 & 2, as they are the best games of all-time! But back to the veterans, you will enjoy it as well, as it have reference to the previous games that you will understand. The story itself resolve around 6 protagonist that will confront the Mobius to save the world from its curse of time, as the people living in this very world live for only 10 years! Well the story is more complex than that, but if I start to explain it, I won't be stoppable and I don't want to spoil what I consider one of the best story in the history of fiction. But what made the story so enjoyable is it resolve around life: the good and the less enjoyable part of it, which can make the player relate to the characters. On another note, the world to explore is also very vast. Apparently, the world of this game is 5 times bigger than Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which itself was 1.5 or 2.5 bigger than Xenoblade Chronicles 1, which itself was a big world. So it's massive. There's still many places I need to explore, actually. There's many quests you can complete, classes to improve and characters to interact with. I won't exagerate when I say that this is for me the best game of this decade, if not the best in gaming history. What are you waiting for? Grab peak fiction and be mindblown by its experience!

I already played it on New 3DS back in 2017, and even played this version, but only for 5 hours and sold it. Back in the days, I thought the New 3DS version was enought and only kept the bonus content of the Switch Special Edition. But as my Fire Emblem self started to "Fire Up!" (ok, I need to stop this), I've decided to buy it again, but playing it beyond only the main game. And I don't regret it: you have option to choose between graphics or framerate and I went to 60fps, sacrificing the graphics. While I'm not a fan of FPS excitement, having a smoother experience than the New 3DS is so fun and beuing 720p instead than 1080 is not a sacrifice for me, as it's much better than the New 3DS version. I said in a past article that technically I prefer the New 3DS version for having the map on the second screen. It's not wrong, but having to play on the TV with a controller, rumble and much beautiful hight resolution character made me enjoy the Switch version better than the other now. Other than that, it's the same game, so not much to say, but replaying it made me reminded of my time with Awakening, Fates and Echoes, which bring me a lot of nostalgia. It's also what made me finish Shadow Dragon, which I'll talk latter. It's a must have for Fire Emblem fans, or if you want to discover some characters across the series!

Back on 3DS, I played the first game and enjoyed it. Knowing this is basically the same, but on TV and with levels across the franchise, I had to buy it. It's basically a Smash Bros. Kirby, but with different abilities, rather than focusing on different characters, thought you can still play as Magolor and more. The stages are a love letter to fans of the series: it having pixellated stages based of old Kirby games and ones based of my favorites modern Kirby games, such as Planet Robobot. The story mode become quite challenging really fast, so if you want difficulty, you have it. A fun game to play while you wait for bigger releases!

I waited for this so long, and now it's here. I've known the story, because I've watched the anime and the OVA, but it's been so freaking long that there's still some surprise that happen again. While I'm not a fan of the time limit, everything else made up for it. The gameplay is fantastic, the music is lovely, the japanese voice acting is marvelous and the characters are enjoyable. Playing it on the go is also a must, like many have wanted for a long time! The content is here, so it's a game I will take my time to try as many things as possible before finishing it. Who will I romance? I can take any suggestions, but I still don't know. I was certain I would go to Makoto, but I'm curiously more interested for lady Ann now!

It's been some years a friend showed this game to me and since then, I've wanted to play it on the Switch. I've already mentionned there and there that I've wanted it and the fact Platinium Games develloped it made a port possible. But my hopes for it to be ported was so low that I was really hype when it was finally announced for the hybrid console. Does the wait was worth? Ho, absolutely. It even went beyond my expectations! The music is really something else: it's one of the best soundtrack ever! The action gameplay is also really fun and fit perfectly with the music. The story is amazing and there's interesting plot twist. So thanks to this, I can enjoy this apocalyptic world, which is usually something not in my cup of tea. A must-have to all Switch owner that love action games!

As I discovered NSO game log each game play time, I've decided to try this game. It's very difficult, but thanks to the rewind option, it made the game much more enjoyable. The level design is difficult, but the backrounds made up for that and the music is gorgeous! The NSO version is the only one I recommend to try this classic! This game and it's two sequel made my feel nostalgia for a childhood I didn't had, which isn't a critic but more like something like the innocence of my youth.

Mostly the same comments from Donkey Kong Country 1 applies here. But the level design is more interesting, Dixie controls are the best in the franchise and the music is above its predecessor. Between Stickerbush Symphony and Forest Interlude, there's so much from David Wise great compositions! It's definitively hard, but carry a lot of childhood memories magic, despite this game not being part of mine, thanks to it's wild natural areas.

I was waiting for the physical version to release, which was totally worth. It's very difficult, but once you failed many times, you slowly start to understand the boss mechanics, so it made the victory way much satisfying. The music and visual inspired from the 30s is very charming and made the experience more fun. I don't think I'll ever beat the game, but I enjoy what I've played so far.

Playing a main Kirby game in 3D is something I've waited for years, so it's nice to see it finally happened. How is it? It's a fun Kirby experience, but in 3D. The plot twist near the end really surprised me too! While I would have like more copy abilities, the options were there and the world was gorgeous! The minigames were also interesting, espiecially the motion-control one! It's certainly in my Top 5 Kirby games, which is a great compliement, even thought there's some I enjoyed more!

I got this game back in 2020, but only had the time to play it at the end of the year. This game mix 2D Platforming, Farming and RPG elements. Its theme is medieval Japan with a lot of mythology. Having to fight ennemies to get food and material is very interesting and your stats increase each year, depending on how much you improved your rice fields, which is very unique and awesome. The visual is just incredible on Switch, thanks to its superb artsyle! The music of this game is also excellent! Fire Emblem Fates Birthright had an interesting japanese-themed traditional soundtrack, and this game feel right at home with this same musical vibe. An hidden gem to absolutely try!

For the year 2020, I spoke about the original Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light, but I did start its DS remake, back in 2017. Following my return on Fire Emblem Warriors with the Shadow Dragon characters, I decided to finish this one. It's quite challenging and the story is what you'd expect, but it's nice to follow the great Hero-King journey. I shows also how much the series evolved since then. The characters are charming and the music lovely. The final boss must be one of the hardest in the series, so I think I will never finish the original Famicom one. A classic that not everyone might like, but if you're an hardcore Fire Emblem fan like me, try to play it once in your life!
