Quarter 1 (Notice)

Prompt: What have you been noticing lately?

Lately I have been noticing that quite a lot of people use the vending machines around the school for snacks that are so much cheaper at places like CVS or 7-Eleven. This is something I usually notice happening after and during 9th period or during lunch. Usually I label these people as money-wasters or people that simply look for short term satisfaction from unhealthy snacks such as, gummies, or chips. But eventually I realize that I look for short term satisfaction from many things in my life. One example of this is when I eat Chipotle after Cross Country practice instead of eating a homemade meal for dinner. With this realization I hope to find aspects of my life that I can improve instead of focusing too much on how others are living their lives. All in all, I have noticed that most people use the vending machines around the school in order to buy snacks mainly during 9th period and lunch.

Quarter 2 (Dream)

Prompt: What dreams are you working to turn into reality?

A dream I am working to turn into reality pursuing a career that is finance-related. Preferably in either Private Equity or Investment Banking. This desire is mainly rooted in my passion for investing and analytics. For example, if you happened to see me taking some sort of break from my academics you would most likely find me watching a video from CNBC about some stock picks, or looking for stocks myself on yahoo finance. It amazes and interests me how private equity firms are able to research and buy other private companies, and is one of my reasons for wanting to enter this business. Additionally, if I were to explain private equity to a 9 year-old, I would say, "It's just the stock market but you're buying private companies." Finally, in order to achieve this dream my plan is to attend the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business.

Baltimore Field Trip

12/8/2022

During the Baltimore Field Trip I attended the Reginald Lewis Museum of African American History. The dominant narrative I saw being challenged was the idea that African Americans succeed through political engagement. I mainly saw this idea being challenged when learning about the life of American businessman and lawyer, Reginald Lewis. Lewis sought success through going to Harvard Law School, then buying and building Beatrice International Holdings, which made him the first black American to build a billion dollar company. This is a great example of the idea of "success through political involvement" being challenged as Lewis did grow up during a time when African Americans were not given many rights.

Question: What are you learning how to do in your free time? Who is helping you?

Something I do in my free time is learn biology. This is something that I started doing about a month ago. Initially I started learning biology in my free time to prepare for AP Biology in the following year. However, I currently continue to learn biology for my genuine interest, and my aspiration of one day becoming a doctor. (Although this idea contradicts the idea presented in the old blog post my only explanation for that is, my ideas change from time to time). One person that has helped me with this endeavor is my sister who allowed me to use her IB (International Baccalaureate) Biology textbook to learn this. Also, every now and then I do recieve help from Khan Academy just ton make sure I understand the topics better.
