Welcome to the Moonraker Challenge app, developed by Ben Hooper for Moonraker Challenge. This Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our app. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at: benhoop26@gmail.com
We collect only the information needed to run accounts, team play, and the trail challenge. Below is a summary of what the app accesses or processes:
Account and Profile
When you sign up or update your profile, we may collect your email address, password (handled securely by our authentication provider; we do not store passwords in plain text), username / display name, phone / contact number (if provided), team code, and selected route (SHORT or LONG).
Emergency Contacts
If you choose to add them, we may collect up to three emergency contacts, including name, phone number, and relationship (for example parent, carer, or guardian). These details are provided by you for safety during the event.
Challenge Activity Data
While you use the app, we may collect answers you submit (including wrong attempts), whether an answer was marked correct or wrong, hints used, question identifiers, timestamps, checkpoint / clock-in and clock-out QR scan events, and shared team progress so teammates stay in sync.
Location
With your permission, the app may access your device location so answer and checkpoint activity can be logged with an approximate place and time for event monitoring. You can refuse or later withdraw location permission in your device settings. Some monitoring features may be limited if location is off.
Camera
With your permission, the app may use your camera to scan QR codes (for example checkpoint check-in / check-out). Camera input is used for scanning on the device and is not stored by the app as a photo library of participants.
App Version and Technical Data
We may process basic app/device information needed for compatibility and support, authentication / session identifiers, and locally stored preferences (for example theme settings, dismissed notices, and cached progress).
Network Requests
When using the app, standard network requests are made to: Firebase / Google infrastructure — for authentication, cloud database storage, and syncing account / team / progress data. Network requests are handled by Google under their own privacy and data policies. Organiser monitoring tools — for example a connected spreadsheet / webhook used by organisers to review answers, results, hints, timestamps, location (if available), and checkpoint scans in near real time. Your IP address may be visible to these services as part of normal web traffic, in the same way as visiting any website.
Permissions
The app may request the following device permissions: INTERNET — to sign in, sync data, and load content
CAMERA — to scan QR codes
LOCATION (fine / coarse) — to optionally attach location to challenge activity logs
We use the data the app accesses solely to provide and improve your experience with the app and to run the challenge. Specifically:
Account and Team Play: to create and manage your account, let you join a team with a team code, and keep teammates on the same route and shared progress. Challenge Operation: to record answers, hints, attempts, and checkpoint scans, and to sync progress across devices on the same team. Event Monitoring: to let organisers review live activity during the challenge. Safety: to support safety arrangements using emergency contact details you choose to provide. App Performance and Support: to help with compatibility, troubleshooting, and secure operation of the app.
We do not sell, rent, or share your information with third parties for marketing purposes, and we do not use challenge data to build advertising profiles.
Account deletion
If you would like your account to be deleted, email 'benhoop26@gmail.com' and request your account to be delted off the database.
We do not share your personal information with third parties, except as required to operate core app functionality, run the event, or comply with legal obligations.
As outlined in Section 2, the app interacts with the following as part of its normal operation: Google Firebase / Firestore / Authentication — for accounts, profiles, team data, and progress sync Organiser monitoring tools (for example Google Sheets / Apps Script webhook) — for live answer and checkpoint monitoring by the event team
In addition: Teammates on the same team code may see shared hunt progress (for example answered questions, hints / attempts used, and checkpoint scans). Event organisers / monitors may see team activity such as submitted answers, results, hints, timestamps, location (if available), and checkpoint scans. Emergency contact details are intended for safety use by organisers / responsible adults for the event, not for marketing.
These services operate under their own privacy policies and may process limited technical data (such as IP addresses) as part of standard network requests. We do not control how these third parties handle such data.
We take appropriate steps to protect your information:
Account, profile, team, and progress data are stored in Google Firebase services, secured and managed under Google’s security standards and our access controls. Challenge monitoring data may also be written to organiser monitoring tools used for the event. Some preferences and cached progress are stored locally on your device so the app can work reliably. Passwords are handled by the authentication provider and are not stored by us in plain text.
No system is completely secure. Please keep your login details private and use a strong password.
For data processed by third-party services such as Google Firebase, security is also governed by their respective policies and infrastructure.
Account deletion
If you would like your account to be deleted, email 'benhoop26@gmail.com' and request your account to be delted off the database.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict use of your personal information, or to withdraw consent.

Our app uses the following third-party services:
Google Firebase / Authentication / Firestore: used for sign-in, account and team data, and syncing challenge progress. Governed by Google’s Privacy Policy. Organiser monitoring tools (for example Google Sheets / Apps Script): used to display live answers, results, and checkpoint activity to event organisers. Governed by Google’s Privacy Policy and the organiser’s event arrangements.
We do not control how these third-party services handle data processed through their infrastructure and recommend reviewing their respective privacy policies for more information.
We only collect information needed to run accounts, team play, safety contacts, and the challenge. If you are under the age where you can provide consent alone in your country, please only use the app with a parent, carer, or guardian’s involvement as required by the event.
