JAGWAR discovery of the radio counterpart of the gravitational wave event GW170817
The Jansky VLA mapping of Gravitational Wave bursts as Afterglows in Radio (JAGWAR) is a large project running on the Very Large Array telescope (VLA) in New Mexico. It is designed to localize and study the electromagnetic counterparts (at radio wavelengths) of double neutron star and neutron star-black hole mergers discovered by terrestrial gravitational wave detectors such as LIGO and Virgo. Principal Investigator Kunal Mooley speaks on the discovery of the radio counterpart of GW170817 and what information about the merger process itself can be learned from the signal
