Transportation:
The closest airport to Montreal is Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL). You can get to UQAM area from the airport either by taxi or bus.
Public transit from Airport to city center (Berri-UQAM): The ticket is about $11 and you can purchase it at the airport or at any metro station in Montreal (24hr/3 day/weekly zone A). You can also purchase tickets through the transit app chrono. The bus is frequent (every 10-15 minutes), safe and often faster than a taxi because it has a protected bus lane. The bus will take you very close to the school venue. This option is highly recommend!
In general, the public transportation in Montreal is efficient. If you are going to regularly use it, from any subway station, at the airport, or the transit app chrono, you can purchase different types of passes (single or multiple trips,1-day, 3-day, weekend, weekly, etc), which can be used for buses or metro.
(1) Subway: The Président-Kennedy (PK) building of UQAM, where the school will be held, is located on top of subway (metro) station "Place des-Arts". For the map of the metro system and more information, see https://www.stm.info/en/info/networks/metro
(2) Bus: In the vicinity of the school, there are many bus stops and you can get different bus routes to many neighborhoods in Montreal. In particular, the shuttle 747 is one of the most convenient ways to commute between downtown and the airport. For more information, see https://www.stm.info/en
(3) Public Bikes: The city of Montreal has banned e-scooter rental, but there is a system to rent city bikes, called bixi, with plenty of locations to pick up/drop off the bikes. For more information, see https://bixi.com/en/how-does-bixi-work
Food & Beverages: The venue of the school is located in the heart of Montréal, with access to a wide range of restaurants, cafes and pubs. Within walking distance, you will find many options, including the following:
Pikolo Espresso (coffee, next to the venue)

Le Central (high-end food court with many options)

If you are bringing a guest, please email us at sum.school.montreal2024@gmail.com by Wednesday noon.
One of the organizers will lead those who would like to directly leave the school venue for the beer garden. If you would like to join, please be at the lecture room (PK5115) at 16:30. We will first take the subway (Place-des-Arts to Lionel Groulx) and then walk for about 45 minutes along Lachine Canal.
