About

The Monsoon Math Camp was originally conceptualised as an in-person camp in early August (hence the word "Monsoon"), to introduce highly motivated high school students to ideas in undergraduate and graduate mathematics.

Our objective is to create a more connected math community in India. Many students across the country are trying to learn new math independently, and with a little bit of mentorship and peer support, we expect that individual efforts will be strongly amplified.

We are still figuring out our response to the COVID-19 outbreak, and have decided to run online camps spanning two editions over the summer of 2020. Depending on how the pandemic progresses, we also hope to run an in-person camp sometime in the fall/winter.

The first edition will take place from April 9 to April 14. The central events of the camp will be lectures by instructors interspersed with group problem solving sessions.

Besides these, we plan to have:

  • Sessions introducing participants to other mathematical opportunities they can explore in the future

  • Guest lectures and Q&A sessions with well-known Indian mathematicians

  • A "dx-colloquium" for participants try to give short talks on fun and exciting pieces of math

Note that the first run is highly experimental, and an online camp of this scale has perhaps not been attempted before, so it is not unlikely that some unprecedented issues may arise. We request you to be tolerant of this, and to provide constructive feedback whenever you can.

Details of the second edition will be announced in June 2020.
