IntroductionProm season is right around the corner, so what better time than now to start planning a promposal to someone special? The act of asking someone to prom can be nerve-racking, but in this article, I’ll be going through the do’s and don’ts of a promposal, along with other tips on how to make yours amazing!
Do: Make It PersonalAs you start to plan your promposal, one of the most important things to keep in mind is to make it personal. You want yours to be memorable, and the best way to do this is by making it unique and creative. Take into consideration your partner’s interests and hobbies: Do they like sports? Do they like art? Incorporating these aspects into your promposal shows the effort and thought you put into your partner.
Don’t: Wait Until The Last MinuteWaiting to present your promposal can cause many problems. Waiting too long to propose to your partner may cause your partner to end up going with someone else. If you don’t ask your partner soon enough, there’s a chance you could be too late. Also, waiting until the last minute can show your partner that you didn’t put much effort into the promposal, as the poster may look rushed and messy.
Do: Be ConfidentAsking someone out to prom can be nerve-racking, especially if you don’t know them that well, but in these situations, confidence is key. You don’t want the situation to be awkward, because that may differ them from saying yes, so to prevent this, make sure to be confident in yourself.
Don’t: Be PushyHowever, being confident doesn’t mean to pressure them into saying yes. You may come to a situation where your partner just isn’t interested, and that’s okay. Don’t assume that your person is obligated to say yes; you never want to be pushy or pressure anyone to attend with you. If you’re concerned about rejection, perhaps ask them in a more private setting.
Do: Keep It SimpleYou don’t want to be too over the top with your promposal. Making it creative is a must, however, making it too extravagant can make your partner uncomfortable. Many people choose to make their promposals public, with crowds of people around, and this is something your partner may not be comfortable with, so consider this; what one may seem as cute, another may seem as obnoxious. Keeping your promposal sweet and simple can show your affection just as well as something something large and public can.
Don’t: Be BoringKeeping your promposal simple doesn’t mean to keep it boring. There are methods to make it simple and creative at the same time. Making it personal and incorporating your partner’s interests is a great way to make it unique. Additionally, show enthusiasm. Rather than just asking your partner, create something to show your effort, such as a poster or other craft. You want the promposal to be memorable for your partner, as prom is a very special moment for most high schoolers.
Do: Ask Them In PersonAsking your date to go to prom with you, in person, is very important. Prom is a very exciting event, and asking your date to attend with you over the phone can look very dull. You want to make sure you’re showing effort and enthusiasm to go with your selected person, so don’t be bland. Asking someone in person shows your confidence and also makes the memory a lot more personal.
